Q: Who is San Luis F.C. – I’ve never heard of them?
A: Founded in 1957, San Luis has won the Mexican Primera Division twice, with their most recent championship coming in 2004. San Luis is off to a shaky start in the young Torneo Apertura season, losing both of their opening matches. However, in these two matches Los Gladiadores have faced reigning champions Santos Laguna and perennial powerhouse Cruz Azul, conceding late goals in both hard-fought matches.
San Luis returns Peruvian striker Wilmer Aguirre and Argentine playmaker Facundo Pereyra who scored four and three goals respectively in last season’s Torneo Clausura. American Michael Orozco Fiscal starts on the San Luis backline. Orozco Fiscal has won four caps for the U.S. Men’s National Team, with his most recent coming on October 8, 2011, against Honduras. Former Mexican international Oscar Perez is the San Luis goalkeeper. Perez, 39, made 54 appearances for Mexico between 1995 and 2010, and started in goal for El Tri at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
