Wondo nets two for the USMNT, and the Quakes win in front of another sold-out crowd at Buck Shaw Stadium.

Needless to say, it wasn't a bad day to be a Quakes fan.

13 July 3:48 pm

It's safe to say that Wondolowski made his name heard in the soccer world after brace against Cuba on Saturday. Not only did he have all the Quakes fans talking, but he had some of the biggest names in the sport singing his praises:

He did again, folks.

While wearing three W's on his jersey (one was pressed on the inside), Chris Wondolowski slotted another two goals for the USMNT against Cuba. His sixth in three games, his fifth goal in Gold Cup play, Wondo is now tied with Clint Dempsey for fifth on the USMNT Gold Cup scorers list.

And he still has a game in group play to go. An incredible achievement.

Relive the magic here:

Wondo's wish is USMNT kit man Jesse Bignami's command.

True, it was Bignami's mistake in the first place, but it ended up being one of the most memorable moments in U.S. Soccer history. A hat-trick and three w's later, superstitious Wondolowski will sport an extra W on his jersey for every national team game.

Don't worry, though, he's not changing his name to Wondowlowski. Bignami came up with the perfect solution and pressed a W on the inside of Wondo's kit.

So will the magic of the three W's continue? We shall see - tune in to Fox tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. PT as the USMNT continue Gold Cup group play against Cuba.

Are you interested in how technology affects sports recruiting? Then, you won't want to miss today's issue of the Silicon Valley Business Journal.

Economic Development reporter Lauren Helper takes a look at how professional Bay Area sports teams use big data to gain an edge in the scouting market. Helper reviews the 49ers, the A's and the San Jose Earthquakes to see how nowadays money isn't everything. Teams continue to use technology to evaluate performance, seeing how their investments in athletes will yield big returns.

It's pretty interesting stuff - and, lucky for you, the paper is free online this week.

In honor of the terrifically horrible sci-fi flick that has caught everyone's attention, we decided to make a little spin of our own...

11 July 4:27 pm

Wondo (or should we say Wondow?) sat down with U.S. Soccer after training in Salt Lake City and talked his recent Gold Cup hat-trick, his "Wondowlowski" jersey and upcoming opponent Cuba.

So, will we see the Wondow jersey back on the pitch on Saturday? Definitely not, as U.S. Soccer superfan Drew Carey snatched his game-worn jersey in return for 5,000 dollars to the charities of Wondo's choice.

And, according to Wondo, "the price was right."

Be sure to tune in to Fox on Saturday before the Quakes home match at Buck Shaw - the USMNT take on Cuba in their second Gold Cup group match at 12:30 p.m. PT.

11 July 9:49 am

Combine Quakes players with float staches, Belgian dip a la Austin Power's Dr. Evil and chugging contests, and you get one hilarious outtake reel.

See for yourself:

From his first international goal on Friday to a stunning first half hat-trick against Belize, it sure looks like Wondo isn't stopping for the USMNT.

And, really, we can't blame U.S. Soccer for misspelling his last name as Wondowlowski. A goal for each W. They knew it was coming.

Congrats, Wondo.

Following a 6-0 rout of Guatemala last Friday, Klinsmann's squad is ready to begin Gold Cup play. The USMNT face tournament first-timer Belize in Portland tonight.

Wondolowski, who tallied his first international goal on Friday, and recent Quakes signee and USMNT veteran Goodson, who also scored for the red, white and blue last week, will both be in the mix to help Klinsmann's squad to victory.

Be sure to cheer on our guys tonight. Kickoff is at 8 p.m. PT on Fox Soccer. Don't watch alone: find your watch party at one of our preferred pub partners
