Verizon Adopt-A-School Program

Sports Equipment Drive

The Earthquakes and Verizon teamed up to create the Adopt-a-School program for the 2011 season. The program kicked off on July 30th and continued through the end of September where new and gently-used sporting equipment was collected at Earthquakes games, the Verizon store on South King Road in San Jose, and at PIER 39 in San Francisco.

The Earthquakes and Verizon collected over 150 balls ranging from soccer balls, basketballs and tetherballs, pop-up soccer nets and cones and over 100 jerseys, shorts, and other apparel. On September 30th, Verizon, Earthquakes, Telemundo and PIER39 presented the donations to KIPP Heartwood and KIPP San Jose Collegiate.  All of the kids in attendance received a rally towel and player autographs.  Student athletes from both schools received their own official school sports bags to carry their new equipment. After the presentation, the students played with the donated equipment to close the event.
