The San Jose Earthquakes created the Get Earthquakes Fit program in 2009 to encourage kids to lead a more active and healthy lifestyle, and to provide elementary schools with ideas and materials to facilitate easy and fun activities in their classrooms, at recess, and at home.
Sutter Health has teamed up with the Earthquakes to expand the reach of the program, impacting students at 40 schools over the course of the 2016 season. Get Earthquakes Fit invites students to step up their physical activity in the classroom and at home through a fun, five-week program. The program helps students exercise for a minimum of 20 minutes every day.
Teachers kick off each week with a new video featuring Earthquakes players showing students new games and providing healthy tips. At the end of the program, Earthquakes players and Sutter Health doctors give students special recognition of their accomplishments of a healthier and more active lifestyle.
