The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that they have signed forward Scott Sealy. Sealy will be added to the Earthquakes roster and be available for selection upon receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC). Per league and team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Being able to bring Scott back is something we have wanted to do since we finished the 2008 season,” said general manager John Doyle. “He was a big part of our success in 2008, and he is a forward that holds the ball well and brings other players into the game. He will be a great addition to our team.”

Sealy, 28, returns to San Jose after playing the past year and a half in Israel. Sealy spent the second half of the 2008 season with the Quakes, appearing in 14 matches and notching three goals and three assists. He was one of the keys to the Quakes second-half resurgence, as they posted a nine-game unbeaten streak to get back into the playoff race.

Following his stint with the Quakes, Sealy signed a contract with Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel. He appeared in 14 games in 2009 and scored the game-winning goal in his debut with the team. Following that 2009 season, he signed with Bnei Sakhnin, for whom he played 10 games. While playing in Israel, he played as both a forward and defensive midfielder.

In his MLS career, he has scored 31 goals and notched eight assists in 102 appearances with San Jose and the Kansas City Wizards.

As a rookie in 2005, Sealy burst onto the MLS scene with nine goals and two assists and was named a finalist for MLS Rookie of the Year for the Wizards. He led all rookies in goals that year after netting his first career goal against the Earthquakes on April 23, 2005. He appeared in 28 games that season. After netting a career-high 10 goals in 2006, he scored seven more goals in just 18 appearances in 2007. He started all three playoff games for Kansas City in 2007 as he helped them reach the Western Conference Championship game.

A native of Trinidad, Sealy has made 12 appearances for the Trinidad and Tobago National Team. He scored a goal in his first appearance in a Trinidad and Tobago uniform on June 20, 2004 against the Dominican Republic. Sealy also played in several World Cup qualifying matches in 2005 and has played with new Quakes teammate Cornell Glen on the national team.

Prior to joining MLS, Sealy was a standout forward for Wake Forest. He finished his career as Wake Forest’s second all-time leading goal scorer with 43 goals. Sealy was named All-Atlantic Coast Conference First Team along with being Offensive Player of the Year in his senior year.
