The Quakes earned a 6-5 penalty-kick shootout win after battling Chivas USA to a scoreless draw for 90 minutes in the inaugural Sacramento Cup hosted at Raley Field.

Jon Busch kept a clean sheet and made a kick save on Chivas USA keeper Dan Kennedy during the shootout to spark San Jose in the win. The back four of Steven Beitashour, Ike Opara, Bobby Burling and Justin Morrow kept Busch's net tidy, allowing just one shot on goal.

Both sides converted the first of their five attempts. Chris Wondolowski, Ramiro Corrales, Javier Robles, Ryan Johnson and Ramon Sanchez lined up for San Jose's five while Gerson Mayen, Carlos Borja, Maicon Santos, Michael Umana and Jose Macotelo made good for Chivas USA. Hernandez scored the decisive tally after Busch's save to win the Sacramento Cup.

In a largely defensive stalemate, both teams kept a close eye on the area, allowing only Chukwudi Chijindu's slow-rolling dribbler that was easily scooped up by Busch. Other than that, Busch was unchallenged for most of the night.

Beitashour and Johnson picked up cautions for San Jose. Cuesta also drew yellow for Chivas USA after tussling with Johnson in the 82nd minute.

San Jose will return to MLS regular season action on June 25 at Real Salt Lake's Rio Tinto Stadium.
