The Earthquakes now begin their portion of the World Cup break after suffering a 2-0 defeat at the hand of FC Dallas on Saturday, June 5. San Jose heads into the break, which lasts until Friday, June 25, when they travel to Salt Lake City to take on defending MLS Cup Champions, Real Salt Lake at 6 p.m. PT. The Quakes will play an exhibition match this Saturday, June 12 against MLS side Chivas USA at 7 p.m. PT at Raley Field in Sacramento.

Soccer History in Sacramento
The Earthquakes will make their second appearance in Sacramento in team history on Saturday. The team faced CD Olimpia from Honduras in a CONCACAF Champions Cup match at a sold-out Sheldon Florin Community Stadium. Landon Donovan, Ian Russell and Jeff Agoos scored for the Quakes in a 3-1 win that moved San Jose into the quarterfinals of the Champions Cup. Ramiro Corrales is the only current Quakes player that appeared in that match on March 16, 2002. San Jose and Chivas USA have played 10 times with the Southern Californian squad holding a 4-2-4 series lead, including a 3-2 win on April 24 at The Home Depot Center in Los Angeles. The Earthquakes are 5-4-1 in 2010, while Chivas USA is 3-8-1. The June 12 match marks the return of soccer to Raley Field; the ballpark hosted international matches for three consecutive years 2006, 2007 and 2008, including a game between Preston North End (England) and Monterrey (Mexico).

Last Game
Earthquakes 0, FC Dallas 2; June 5, 2010; Pizza Hut Park; Frisco, Texas.
Brek Shea energized a sluggish attack with two goals in the span of two minutes on Saturday night as FC Dallas topped the visiting San Jose Earthquakes 2-0 at Pizza Hut Park. After a somewhat lathargic first half for both sides, Shea put the hosts on top in the 58th minute. The youngster finished off a nifty set-up from David Ferreira, who took a pass from Heath Pearce and took off down the left flank and to the San Jose touchline. The dross pass found Shea, who hammered home the goal past San Jose veteran Joe Cannon, who had kept the Quakes in the match much of the first half. Shea struck again almost instantly, but this one was all his own. After a lofty through ball from Pearce was misplayed by San Jose’s Chris Leitch just inside the box, Shea pounced and eventually flicked a right-footed shot past a surging Cannon for his third tally of the season.

Last Game vs. Chivas USA
Earthquakes 2, Chivas USA 3; April 24, 2010; The Home Depot Center; Carson, Calif.
Chivas USA collected a victory on Saturday evening, holding off a late push from the visiting San Jose Earthquakes for a 3-2 victory at The Home Depot Center. Goals from Sacha Kljestan, Justin Braun and Chukwudi Chijindu were the difference as the Red-and-White claimed their second consecutive win at home. It was Kljestan who found the back of the net first. San Jose equalized just before halftime with a 41st-minute penalty kick. Chris Wondolowski netted from the spot for the visitors, slotting a low ball into the left-hand corner of the net after he was taken down in the box by Jonathan Bornstein. Any momentum the Quakes had going into the second half was quickly squelched by Justin Braun in the 54th minute. The big Chivas striker got onto the end of an incisive cross from Mariano Trujillo to head the ball past a diving Cannon and into the far left side of the net. It was Braun’s fourth consecutive goal against the Earthquakes. Substitute striker Chukwudi Chijindu added a third notch for the Red-and-White in the 88th minute after collecting a long pass from Lahoud and outpacing Steven Beitashour. The SoCal native calmly slipped the ball under Cannon, who had charged off his line. The Quakes swarmed in the game’s closing minutes, getting a goal of their own in the 92nd minute when defender Steven Beitashour hit a speculative shot from beyond the 18-yard line that sailed over the Chivas USA defense but dipped under the bar at the last moment.
