The San Jose Earthquakes named MDSA United FC GU16 goalkeeper Megan Elms the Odwalla Player of the month for July last week.

Megan started playing soccer at the age of 6 with Mt. Diablo Soccer AYSO (MDSA) Region 223. The next year she started playing goalkeeper for Diablo Valley Soccer Club (now Diablo Futbol Club), the same club Chris Wondolowski once played for. She was also coached by Brazilian soccer star Sissi.

As a sophomore in high school this past winter, Megan earned starting goalkeeper honors for Clayton Valley High School’s varsity squad where she amazingly allowed zero goals en route to an undefeated Diablo Valley Athletic League slate and the DVAL title. She was selected Second Team All-DVAL for her contributions.

Megan played keeper for MDSA for two years. Her outstanding performance in the net led United FC GU16 to first place finishes in the Comstock Shootout, Concord Cup XVIII and the Davis World Cup. In a string of five tournaments, Megan had 14 shutouts.

In her spare time, Megan volunteers to train youth goalkeepers at Diablo FC. She is not only a talented athlete and leader on the field, but also maintains a 4.0 GPA in the classroom.

Megan enjoys watching Jon Busch of the San Jose Earthquakes, but there is a special spot in her heart for local player Chris Wondolowski. Megan’s favorite women’s soccer team is the U.S. Women’s National Team and her favorite player is goalkeeper Hope Solo.
