Quakes President named to "40 under 40"

Dave Kaval has engineered a massive turnaround for the Quakes on and off the field

Earthquakes President Dave Kaval has been named to the "40 under 40" list by the Silicon Valley/San Jose Sports Business Journal. Kaval, 37, enters his third season with the Quakes in 2013 and has already helped the team to their first Supporters' Shield since 2005, while also receiving approval for a new state-of-the-art 18,000 seat soccer-specific stadium located at 1125 Coleman Ave, San Jose.

While the Earthquakes achieved a fantastic 2012 campaign on the field, the Quakes realized many milestones off of it. Under Kaval's direction, the Quakes received approval for a soccer specific stadium located directly across from San Jose International Airport. In preparation for the 2014 stadium opening, the Quakes historically broke ground with their fans. Kaval led a Guinness World Record groundbreaking ceremony on Oct. 21 that attracted 6,256 of the Quakes faithful in which participants dug continuously for two straight minutes. The event eclipsed the previous mark of 4,532 set in Jaipur, India. The Quakes have also seen ticket and sponsorship revenues increase significantly for the second straight year.

Indicative of the type of franchise Kaval wants to build, the Quakes have expanded their community outreach. San Jose has visited more than 55 local schools, interacted with 10,000 local students, and have raised more than $100,000 for those in need through their Community Fund.

The 2012 Quakes captured one of their finest seasons in franchise history. San Jose finished with a franchise-best record of 19-6-9 for 66 points, securing their second Supporters' Shield. Predatory striker Chris Wondolowski was named the 2012 Volkswagen MVP after winning the Budweiser Golden Boot award for his 27 league goals. Steven Beitashour, Ramiro Corrales, and Justin Morrow joined Wondolowski in the MLS All-Star match. The four nods were the highest of any MLS team. Head coach Frank Yallop was recognized for his efforts by being awarded MLS Coach of the Year.
