Quakes central defender Victor Bernardez will join the Honduras national team, as announced by head coach Luis Fernando Suarez, ahead of their FIFA World Cup Qualifying match against the United States on February 6 in San Pedro Sula. Bernardez will be one of five MLS players to join "Los Catrachos".

At 6-foot-2, 190 pounds, the imposing Bernardez had a decorated first season for the Quakes in 2012. Bernardez was an integral component for the Quakes' 2012 Supporters' Shield run. During the regular season, Bernardez started 24 matches for the black and blue and registered a total of two goals and one assist in 2088 minutes of play. He also netted a stoppage time winner against the LA Galaxy in the first leg of the Western Conference Semifinals of the MLS Cup to give the team a 1-0 victory.

Bernardez, commonly partnering with Jason Hernandez, held opponents to 43 goals on the year. For his efforts, he was named to the 2012 MLS Best XI. The Honduran will be seeking his 56th cap for his country.

Meanwhile, Quakes' forward and 2012 Volkswagen MLS MVP Chris Wondolowski has spent the month of January training with the U.S. Men's National Team ahead of their friendly against Canada on Jan. 29 at 6 p.m. PST.
