Columbus Crew Scouting Report
The Columbus Crew head into Week 3 with a 1-1-0 record after falling on the road against Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Saturday. Jairo Arrieta equalized in the 46th minute of that match, but a Kenny Miller goal in the 57th gave the Canadians the win. Four different Crew players have scored so far in 2013, the most noteworthy contributors being Argentine striker Federico Higuain and Costa Rican forward Arrieta. The latter led Columbus with nine goals in 2012 while Higuain burst onto the scene with five goals and a team-high seven assists in 13 games after signing as the club’s third-ever Designated Player in late July.
- Adam Jahn’s 83rd-minute goal made him the first rookie out of college to score since Rafael Baca found the net in a 4-2 win against FC Dallas on Oct. 22, 2011.
- Earthquakes goalkeeper Jon Busch made his first career MLS appearance on April 20, 2002 as a member of the Columbus Crew. He followed that up with his first career MLS start on April 27, 2002, a 1-0 win against D.C. United. San Jose assistant coach Mark Watson also traces his MLS lineage to Columbus having made his playing debut for the Crew on April 13, 1996 in a 4-0 rout of D.C. United.
