PORTLAND, Ore. – Steven Beitashour made his 2013 debut in a 2-1 loss against the Portland Timbers on Monday in Reserve League action.

The 2012 MLS All-Star right back started and played the first half before subbing off for academy player Trevor Long. Beitashour underwent a procedure to repair a sports hernia during the preseason and has since been rehabbing.

The Earthquakes' lone goal came from Honduran midfielder Walter Martinez. He fired from the top of the area, placing a shot over the outstretched arms of Portland goalkeeper Milos Kocic for his first Reserve League strike of the season.

Timbers midfielder Michael Nanchoff accounted for both of his team's goals. He tallied the game’s opening goal in the 14th minute and tacked on another in the 50th. Nanchoff won possession in the Earthquakes' defensive third and then fired from close range to score his first. The second came on a spot kick with Nanchoff bending a shot around the Earthquakes' wall and past goalkeeper Evan Newton from 30 yards out.

San Jose's next Reserve League match is Tuesday, April 23 against Seattle Sounders FC's at the Starfire Sports Complex (11 a.m. PT).
