Quote Sheet: Quakes at Galaxy

Interim head coach Watson, Salinas and Wondolowski react to draw at LA Galaxy

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES INTERIM HEAD COACH MARK WATSON

 On the game:
“We knew that we had to be solid to start the game and not give them too many looks. I think we did that and then we started to take some more chances as the game went on, but we couldn’t get the goal. The players gave everything they had and left it all out there. I am proud of their effort.”

On playoffs:
“This game was huge obviously and we knew that we needed three points to have a chance. We are disappointed with the result, but not the effort. Everyone gave everything they had, but we just came up a bit short in the end.”

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES MIDFIELDER SHEA SALINAS

 On team’s effort:
“We worked hard for 90 minutes and everyone in here put it all on the line. We can’t fault our effort tonight, but it is disappointing that we couldn’t get a goal at the end to give us a chance next week to get into the playoffs.”

On intensity of the match:
“It was very intense out there. It felt like a playoff game and it was for us. There were chances for both sides and it really was a back and forth game. Everyone put the effort in, but wejust couldn’t get the result.”

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES FORWARD CHRIS WONDOLOWSKI

On playoff chances:
“We had to win tonight to give ourselves a realistic chance and we couldn’t get the job done. I am proud of what we have accomplished over the past month, but we dug ourselves too deep a whole and it cost us in the end.”

On Jaime Penedo’s play:
“He was excellent all night, as he has been since he arrived in the league. He made a number of great saves tonight and we just couldn’t put one past him. We tested their defense and they were up to the challenge.”
