San Jose’s Record in October
The Quakes are 11-11-13 all-time in October in MLS play.
Earthquakes 1, Colorado Rapids 0; Oct. 9, 2013; Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.
Chris Wondolowski kept the Earthquakes’ MLS Cup Playoff hopes alive with a goal in the 69th-minute, leading San Jose to a 1-0 win against the Colorado Rapids in front of a sold-out crowd at Buck Shaw Stadium. Wondolowski headed home his 10th goal of the season off a Shea Salinas corner kick. The marker was his 33rd career game winner, tying him for No. 3 in MLS history with Ante Razov. He also became the 11th player in league history to record double-digit goals in four consecutive seasons. The Earthquakes would have found the net sooner if not for a gritty defensive effort from the Rapids. Alan Gordon clipped the post with a header in the ninth minute and then defender Drew Moor went to the ground to block point-blank shots from Wondolowski and Gordon on the Rapids’ goal line midway through the second half. Colorado goalkeeper Clint Irwin also made a diving one-handed save to deny Wondolowski at the near post in the 69th minute, just before the corner kick that netted the eventual winner. San Jose’s defense kept the Rapids quiet for most of the night, yielding just six shots – none on goal.
