CCL Update: Keeping tabs on Toluca

Team updates on upcoming CCL quarterfinal opponent Toluca

San Jose Earthquakes and Toluca will face off in the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals in March. In the home-and-away series, the Earthquakes will first host the Liga MX side on March 11 and travel to Nemesio Diez Stadium for the last of the series on March 19. The winner on aggregate advances to the semi-final to be held April 1 - 9. The 2013-2014 CONCACAF Champions League winner qualifies for the 2014 FIFA Club World Cup in Morocco. SJEarthquakes.com will be providing updates on Toluca's play leading up to the quarter-final series.

---------------------------------------------------

Toluca travels to San Jose for their first of the home-and-away semi-final series on March 11, but before that, the Liga MX side must get through ten matches of their Clausura campaign. Eight games in, the 10-time Liga MX champion is having no problem doing just that.

Having only dropped one result this season so far, Toluca sits at No. 2 in the table - just three points behind other CCL quarterfinalist Cruz Azul.

Toluca have won their last four, most recently defeating Chivas Guadalajara at home 1-0. San Jose born Isaac Brizuela scored the lone goal (featured below), keeping Toluca five points clear of third place in the league. Brizuela has scored in the last three, placing him second on Toluca's scoring chart this season. Forward Pablo Velazquez, who was Toluca's leading-scorer last season, tops the charts with five goals in his last eight appearances.

Toluca next faces Cruz Azul on March 1 in a decisive top-of-the-table showdown. If Toluca can squeeze out an away win - they have only lost two of their last 14 away games in Liga MX - the clubs will be tied for first place. The match will be aired live on Univision on March 1; kickoff is set for 3 p.m. PT.

Toluca plays one other match before heading to Buck Shaw on March 11, hosting Puebla on March 9. Tickets are still available to the first leg of the CCL quarterfinal; fans can purchase online or by calling 1-800-225-2277.
