40 in 40: Jerseys from Earthquakes' past
As a tribute to our 40th anniversary, we're proud to unveil the San Jose Earthquakes' 40 in 40: 40 weeks of 40 stories from 40 years of Earthquakes soccer. From March until December, fans can follow along and learn about key moments of our history - and see how our past, present and future ultimately shape our new identity.
40 in 40 kicks off with a look at past Earthquakes' jerseys and how they have evolved into our current new look. We interview the 1974 equipment manager and trainer, Dave "Obie" Obenour - a guy with many stories about the original San Jose Earthquakes.
Of course, he's keen on our new throwback red, the away kit that pays homage to our inaugural 1974 season. The kit man talks about the fabric differences and takes us through the original jersey features and how they have changed to fit the times.
Our jersey has always represented who we are as a club. It serves as testament to our past and a look as to where we want to go in the future.
