Match day preview: Earthquakes vs. Dynamo

Ike Opara West Valley

WHERE: Kezar Stadium, San Francisco

WHEN: 7 p.m. PT

RADIO/TV: None.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR: San Jose coach Frank Yallop said Tuesday that he will be using several players who are penciled in to start during the regular season, but he also must make his final decisions regarding the Quakes’ roster; San Jose has 26 players in camp, and must cut two before the season begins on March 27.

“We’ll probably go with a lot of guys that might be starting on Saturday [in the preseason finale against the Portland Timbers] and the following Saturday [in the regular-season opener against Real Salt Lake],” said Yallop, who expects to change liberally at halftime.

Brazilian forward Eduardo, the Quakes’ top addition this offseason, will not play, as he is at home dealing with personal matters before the season starts. But he did practice with the team before the 10-day England trip and is expected to be ready for the regular season.

André Luiz (knee surgery) and Brandon McDonald (hamstring/calf soreness) marked their return from injury by participating fully in Tuesday’s  practice, although their availability might be limited as Yallop doesn’t want to be forced into playing someone who isn’t 100 percent fit. That’s how you wind up with nagging injuries and a 1-8-2 start, which San Jose is loath to repeat.
