Chris Wondolowski scored his third goal of the season -- his third in as many matches -- to make the difference in a 1-0 victory for San Jose. The Earthquakes did an impressive job of making up for the absence of rookie center back Ike Opara, throttling Colorado’s offense to post their second shutout of the season. San Jose (3-2) got a jolt from Wondolowski in the 33rd minute that carried them through. Wondolowski powered a left-footed shot past Colorado goalkeeper Matt Pickens, driving the ball from just inside the penalty box off the crossbar and into the net. He was set up on the play by Ryan Johnson, whose subtle touch on Ramiro Corrales’ lead pass gave Wondolowski just enough room to get free from Drew Moor and strike the ball soundly on the bounce. It capped a first half in which the Rapids (3-2-1) held the advantage in time of possession -- just as Chivas USA did in beating San Jose last week -- but failed on most occasions to turn the run of play truly dangerous. Even as Colorado threw players forward in the second half, they couldn’t often crack San Jose’s back four. Goalkeeper Joe Cannon’s real work came on stopping long shots from the likes of Wells Thompson and Danny Earls.

The San Jose Earthquakes picked up a 1-0 victory over the New York Red Bulls on Oct. 3. Ryan Johnson provided the lone goal, his 10th, which came on a penalty kick in the 24th minute. The Earthquakes would break through first, however, by way of the penalty spot. Alvarez was taken down in the area by Jeremy Hall, and Johnson stepped up to take the penalty. He slotted it into the bottom right corner and San Jose grabbed a 1-0 lead. Neither team could break through in the latter stages of the second half, as there were limited chances for either side. San Jose was able to hold on for the 1-0 win, and Cannon picked up his third clean sheet of the season on a night where he became the franchise’s all-time starts leader with his 156th start for San Jose.

Wondo is Three for Three
Earthquakes forward Chris Wondolowski scored the game-winning goal for San Jose against Colorado on Saturday. This was the third straight game for Wondolowski starting up top, and the third consecutive game he has scored. Wondolowski beat Matt Pickens on the half-volley in the 33rd minute for the only goal of the match. Check out Wondo’s goal here. Ryan Johnson was the last Quakes player to score in three straight games, when he did it from May 8 through May 27 of last year. If Wondolowski scores on Saturday against the New York Red Bulls, he will become the fourth player in Earthquakes history to have scored in four straight matches. The last Quakes player to do so was Ronald Cerritos in 1997, when he scored in five consecutive games from June 15 through July 13.
Corrales Tallies 25th Career Assist
Ramiro Corrales assisted on Chris Wondolowski’s game-winning goal on Saturday against the Rapids to tally his 25th career assist. Corrales hit a first-time ball towards a streaking Ryan Johnson, who then flicked it on to Wondolowski, who finished well on the half-volley to beat Matt Pickens in the first half.
Cannon Posts Second Straight Home Shutout
Earthquakes goalkeeper Joe Cannon posted his second shutout of the season on Saturday in San Jose’s 1-0 win against the Rapids. Cannon now has 70 career shutouts and 101 wins. Although he made just three saves, none was bigger than his stop on Wells Thompson in the 45th minute on his effort from just outside the area.
Quakes Stay Unbeaten Against Colorado
The Earthquakes extended their unbeaten streak to 12 games against the Rapids, dating back to 2004, and they are 8-0-4 over that stretch after their 1-0 win on Saturday at Buck Shaw Stadium.
Leitch Makes 150th Career Start
Quakes defender Chris Leitch made his 150th career start on Saturday against the Colorado Rapids in the 1-0 win. Leitch has made 169 appearances and notched 13 assists in his nine-year career.
Eduardo and Morrow Make MLS Debuts
Earthquakes forward Eduardo and rookie defender/midfielder Justin Morrow made their MLS debuts on Saturday, May 1 against Colorado. Eduardo came on as a substitute in the 59th minute for Ryan Johnson and Morrow came on as an 84th minute substitution for captain Ramiro Corrales.
Alvarez Set to Make 150th Appearance
Quakes midfielder/forward Arturo Alvarez will make his 150th career appearance in MLS if he plays on Saturday, May 1 against the Colorado Rapids. He has started 92 games and scored 22 goals and notched 17 assists in his eight-year career.
History of the Quakes-Red Bulls Rivalry
The Earthquakes had a 10-game unbeaten streak against New York from Aug. 9, 1998-July 2, 2003, posting a 6-0-4 record during that stretch … New York and San Jose had two classic shootouts in 2003 and 2004. On July 2, 2003, the Quakes and then MetroStars tied 4-4 at Giants Stadium with Landon Donovan tying the game in stoppage time. The following year, the two teams combined for 10 goals in a 5-5 tie at Spartan Stadium on May 8. Cornell Glen tied the game for New York in the final minutes.

Cannon Among All-Time Leaders
Earthquakes goalkeeper Joe Cannon is among the all-time league leaders in a number of goalkeeping categories. He is second in goalkeeper appearances (279), starts (278) and minutes played (25,125). He is now third all-time in saves (1,138), third all-time in shutouts (70) and fourth all-time in wins (101) in league history. For San Jose, Cannon is first in club history as a goalkeeper in starts (164), minutes played (14,931), saves (670), wins (63) and shutouts (40) and second in appearances (164), goals against average (1.31), and saves percentage (73.2). He also holds the team's all-time record for saves in a game with 12 on July 8, 2000 at Colorado.
Corrales Among All-Time Leaders
Ramiro Corrales has the most appearances in franchise history with 172, has made 156 starts and has logged 13,866 minutes played as a member of the Quakes. He is now alone in second place in franchise history in starts and is third in all-time in club history for minutes played.
Quakes Host Club Partner Tottenham Hotspur July 17
The San Jose Earthquakes will play club partner Tottenham Hotspur from the English Premier League (EPL) on Saturday, July 17 at Buck Shaw Stadium. The kick-off time will be announced at a later date. Season ticket holders should use their Bonus Game “B” ticket for the match. Season ticket holders will also be able to purchase additional individual tickets and groups from April 21-28. From April 29-May 9, fans can purchase mini-plans that include the Tottenham Hotspur and Los Angeles Galaxy match, before tickets go on sale to the general public on May 10. Tickets range from $20-$50 and can be purchased by calling (800) 225-2277 or by logging on to sjearthquakes.com. Tottenham Hotspur, also known as Spurs, signed a club partnership agreement in 2008 with the objective of creating a long-term bond between the two clubs. The relationship focuses on both soccer and commercial development by exchanging and implementing the best practices from both organizations. The partnership to date has seen Earthquakes technical staff visiting Spurs Lodge on numerous occasions, with the team using the Tottenham Hotspur training facility as a base for this season’s pre-season preparations.

Philadelphia Match on Sept. 18 Moved to Sept. 15
The San Jose Earthquakes announced last week that their game that was scheduled for Saturday, September 18 has been moved to Wednesday, Sept. 15 at 7:00 p.m. PT at Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. The full 2010 Earthquakes schedule is available on www.sjearthquakes.com.
Quakes Individual Tickets
The San Jose Earthquakes announced that individual tickets for all 2010 Earthquakes home games are now on sale. The Quakes significantly reduced prices for the 2010 season with prices ranging from $20-50. Tickets for the much anticipated 2010 campaign are available online at sjearthquakes.com or by calling 1-800-225-2277. The new, reduced prices for the 2010 season are as follows; Premier Midfield $50 per game ($60 in 2009), Center Circle $35 per game ($40 in 2009), Sideline $25 per game ($35 in 2009) and Goal View $20 per game ($22 in 2009).
Earthquakes 2010 Partial Plan
The San Jose Earthquakes have one partial plan for the 2010 season still available, the Pick 6 Plan. With the Pick 6 Plan you can select any six Earthquakes home games at Buck Shaw Stadium during the 2010 regular season. Prices are as follows: Corona Cove - $330, Center Circle - $192, Sideline - $132, Goal View - $108, Supporters Section - $90.
