San Jose forward Chris Wondolowski scored the lone goal of the game, which took home MLS Goal of the Week honors, in the 33rd minute which began a streak of four consecutive shutouts for the Earthquakes.

The San Jose Earthquakes fell 1-0 to visiting Seattle Sounders FC thanks to Fredy Montero’s seventh goal of the campaign. Seattle grabbed the lead in the 26th minute when Sanna Nyassi broke down the sideline and his cross found an unmarked Montero. The Colombian took advantage of the free space and his header beat Jon Busch to give the Sounders the early advantage. That lead was able to stand up as San Jose failed to find the back of the net. With the victory, the Sounders won the 2nd annual Heritage Cup based on a tie-breaker.

Chris Wondolowski scored his third goal of the season to make the difference in a 1-0 victory for San Jose. San Jose (3-2) got a jolt from Wondolowski in the 33rd minute that carried them through. Wondolowski powered a left-footed shot past Colorado goalkeeper Matt Pickens <http://www.mlssoccer.com/player/matt-pickens> , driving the ball from just inside the penalty box off the crossbar and into the net. It capped a first half in which the Rapids (3-2-1) held the advantage in time of possession -- just as Chivas USA did in beating San Jose last week -- but failed on most occasions to turn the run of play truly dangerous. Bad Breaks
Quakes Rookie of the Year candidate Ike Opara was diagnosed with a left foot fracture. Opara was injured on Saturday, July 31 in the Quakes 1-0 loss to Seattle. Rookie defender Steven Beitashour fractured his right hand during training on Monday. Both players are scheduled for surgery in the near future. Midfielder Andre Luiz, will also undergo surgery this week Wednesday to reconstruct the posterior cruciate ligament and repair medial collateral ligament in his left knee.
Quakes Release Midfielder Javier Robles
The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that midfielder Javier Robles was released. Robles joined San Jose in the preseason and appeared in two matches in 2010. The Argentine midfielder started one of those matches and played 61 minutes this year.
Earthquakes Lose Heritage Cup
The Earthquakes were unable to win the Heritage Cup for the second year in a row with a 1-0 loss to Seattle Sounders FC on Saturday at Buck Shaw Stadium. With a 1-0 victory over the Sounders in Seattle on May 22, the Earthquakes need a win or a draw to claim the 2nd annual Cup. Despite an even 1-1 aggregate score, the Cup was awarded to Seattle based on total points amassed during the season thus far. Seattle has 25 points while San Jose has 23 points.
Loss Ends Multiple Streaks
San Jose’s 1-0 loss to Seattle Sounders FC ended multiple streaks for the Earthquakes. First, it was the first time the Earthquakes lost since the team returned from the World Cup break. The Earthquakes had amassed a record of 1-0-3 in MLS play since the break, and earned a scoreless draw against club partner Tottenham Hotspur from the English Premier League on July 10. The loss was also the first defeat suffered since midfielder Sam Cronin was acquired from Toronto FC, and the first since Jon Busch was named as the starting goalkeeper.
Quakes Undefeated in Colorado since Return
Since their return to the MLS in 2008, the Earthquakes are undefeated in Colorado. In 2008, San Jose won 2-0, a victory that was one of two wins the club had on the road for the entire season. Last year, San Jose earned a 1-1 draw. Overall, the Earthquakes are 10-9-3 in Colorado.
McDonald Makes 50th Career Appearance on Saturday
Quakes midfielder Brandon McDonald made his 50th career appearance on Saturday, July 31 against Seattle Sounders FC. It was McDonald’s 34th appearance with the Earthquakes. McDonald signed with San Jose on March 20, 2009 after a year with the Los Angeles Galaxy.
Convey Plays in 2010 MLS All-Star Game in Houston
Earthquakes midfielder Bobby Convey played in the 2010 MLS All-Star game at Reliant Stadium in Houston on Wednesday, July 28. Convey, making his third all-star appearance (2001, 2004), entered as a substitute at the beginning of the second half for Sebastien Le Toux and played 45 minutes. The MLS all-stars fell to Manchester United 5-2, with former Earthquakes players Brian Ching and Dwayne De Rosario scoring the two goals for the MLS.
Road Warriors
With a road record this season of 3-2-3, the Earthquakes have as many wins on the road as the team had in 2008 and 2009 combined. In 2008, the Earthquakes went 2-8-5 on the road in their first season back. In 2009, the Earthquakes went 1-10-5 with the lone win coming against D.C. United on September 27, 2009 at RFK Stadium. With 12 points on the road so far this season, the Earthquakes have surpassed the 11 points the team had in 2008 for the most points earned on the road since the team returned. The franchise record for points on the road in a single season is 30 points, achieved in 2005.
Jasseh Playing for Gambia’s U-20 National Team
Earthquakes midfielder Omar Jasseh is currently playing with the Gambia U-20 National Team in the 17th African Orange U-20 Championship. He will return to the Earthquakes on Wednesday, August 11.
Quakes Academy Plays First Games in SUM Cup
The Earthquakes Academy team made its debut in the Sum U-17 Cup in Houston over the All-Star Break, going 0-3-1 over the course of the tournament, registering their first point against MLS competition in the final match, a thrilling 4-4 draw with FC Dallas.

Quakes Potent in the Final 15 Minutes
With forward Arturo Alvarez’s goal in the 90th minute on Saturday, July 10, the Earthquakes now have scored seven goals in the final 15 minutes this season. On April 10, rookie defender Ike Opara scored the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute of a 2-1 victory on the road against the Chicago Fire. On April 24, midfielder Steven Beitashour scored in the 90th minute of a 3-2 road loss to Chivas USA. On May 8, forward Chris Wondolowski scored in the 76th minute, and defender Bobby Burling scored in the 85th minute of a 4-0 victory over the New York Red Bulls at Buck Shaw Stadium. Cannon Among All-Time Leaders
Earthquakes goalkeeper Joe Cannon is among the all-time league leaders in a number of goalkeeping categories. He is second in goalkeeper appearances (285), starts (284) and minutes played (25,665). He is now second all-time in saves (1,154), second all-time in shutouts (73) and fourth all-time in wins (103) in league history. For San Jose, Cannon is first in club history as a goalkeeper in starts (170), minutes played (15,471), saves (686), wins (65), and shutouts (43) and second in appearances (170), goals against average (1.33), and saves percentage (73.4). He also holds the team's all-time record for saves in a game with 12 on July 8, 2000 at Colorado.
Corrales Among All-Time Leaders
Ramiro Corrales has the most appearances in franchise history with 183 and has made 167 starts, while logging 14,855 minutes played as a member of the Quakes. He is now alone in second place in franchise history in starts, second in all-time in club history for minutes played and ninth in assists with 21.

The San Jose Earthquakes announced that individual tickets for all 2010 Earthquakes home games are now on sale.
