Training Report: Eduardo, Leitch back to training

For the first time in over a month, the San Jose Earthquakes were able to put 22 healthy bodies on the Nutrilite Training Facility for an 11-on-11 scrimmage.

Tuesday's practice saw the return of right back Chris Leitch and Brazilian striker Eduardo. Both have battled hip injuries over the last month, but looked sharp during the fast-paced scrimmage. Eduardo scored a goal in the first half and split time with Ryan Johnson in the second. Leitch participated fully, playing every minute at right back.

Leitch's return would be a huge boost to San Jose's depth on defense. Bobby Convey and Brandon McDonald were forced to slide back from the midfield and take over defensive duties against Kansas City and Los Angeles.

Eduardo remains an unknown commodity to Quakes fans and Major League Soccer. After signing with San Jose in the off-season, the former FC Basel forward has appeared in several matches, but can't seem to stay healthy. The transfer window has closed, but a healthy Eduardo could be a significant boost for San Jose in the MLS Playoff race.

GEOVANNI UPDATE
Geovanni signed on as San Jose's first-ever designated player last week and looked the part during training. During an 11-on-11 scrimmage, the Brazilian playmaker paired with Khari Stephenson at center mid. The duo got along well, controlling the tempo and creating several scoring chances.
