QUOTES

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES HEAD COACH FRANK YALLOP
On the result:
“The last 15 minutes were good, but all in all, I would say we are very disappointed. That being said, credit these guys on what they have done all year, we will just move on from tonight and look to Wednesday (against Chivas USA) to improve.

On Jon Busch’s play:
“He’s a good pro, he took a pretty good gash on his ear, pretty much split his earlobe, and still played very well tonight. He made some really big saves for us tonight, and being able to come back from that type of injury and make big plays says a lot about his character.”

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES DEFENDER JASON HERNANDEZ
On the recent home form:
“To us, this game Wednesday is everything. We are going to have a home game in the playoffs and we are going to need to perform well. For whatever reason, we have struggled in the last two games at home. We need to be able to score more goals at home. We are going to get together and figure it out for Wednesday. We need to solve it and start getting some goals.”

On the loss:
“We need to make sure that we show up for the full 90 minutes. For the first 45 tonight, we didn’t show up, but I still think we maybe deserved better than to concede that goal on a diving header off the back of his (Andrew Hainault) neck or wherever it hit. That being said, we need to be playing better. The last 40-50 minutes were better, but we should be doing that the full 90.”

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES GOALKEEPER JON BUSCH
On his injury:
“Its just part of sports, physicality is part of the game, and we all know that. Cam (Weaver) caught me and he came over after and apologized, he isn’t a vicious player, and I know that. It’s part of the game, I’m trying to pick off a cross and he’s trying to get on the end of it. It’s my job to get into those spots, and I paid for it tonight. I’m already married and already ugly, so it doesn’t really matter what happens to my head.”

On the 1-0 loss:
“They (Houston) are a physical team and they are playing spoiler right now. They are trying to beat up on every playoff team they can right now, and credit to them. They came in and fought hard and got a 1-0 win. We need to make sure that for our game on Wednesday night that we are ready to battle from minute one. It doesn’t matter if they are a playoff team or not, every team in this league is a good quality team.”
