Playoff Update: Red Bulls clinch Eastern Conference

Injuries to defenders like Bobby Burling have left San Jose's back line in a tough predicament.

The New York Red Bulls provided some semblance to the playoff picture Thursday night after defeating New England 2-0.

With the win, the Red Bulls clinched the top spot in the Eastern Conference and will play either Seattle, San Jose or Colorado in the first round pending results over the weekend.

The Quakes still have no read on who their first-round playoff opponent will be. San Jose could face any of the four top seeds - New York, Columbus, Los Angeles and Real Salt Lake.
