There were many events that defined the San Jose Earthquakes run to the Eastern Conference Championship. Each day we will reveal the

Stay tuned!

The rumor began on Twitter, spreading to social networks across the Web.

Fans and experts scoured cyberspace in search of a clue. Were the San Jose Earthquakes really in the market for a Designated Player and who was this potential mystery man?

The guessing game came to a halt on Monday, August 16 as the Quakes announced Geovanni as their target. Four days later, the Brazilian playmaker inked a contract, becoming the first DP in franchise history.

Geovanni made his first appearance in a 1-0 win against the Los Angeles Galaxy. In his third game with the Quakes, he notched an assist and a game-winning goal in Houston, a key win in San Jose's push for the MLS Cup Playoffs.

Even though Geovanni won't return for 2011, his signing showed that San Jose isn't afraid to dabble in the big-money market.
