With Day 1 of preseason training camp in the books, San Jose Earthquakes players and coaches took a moment to discuss practice, expectations for 2011, injuries and more.
Quakes Head Coach Frank Yallop
On today’s session:
“With the first day of camp, we just want to make sure everyone is moving okay. I’ve been through a few of these (preseasons) and you can do it however you want, but in the end, all that matters is being ready for the first game. In terms of the team’s spirits in the camp, that’s good, the new additions have fit right in, and I’m happy with how things have turned out.”

Quakes forward Chris Wondolowski
On being back at camp:
“It’s always great to see the guys. We got a chance to talk about what everyone was up to during the offseason, and it’s really good to have everyone back together as a group.”
On team and individual goals for 2011:
“First of all, collectively, we are going to try to have a good preseason so that we can get off to a good start. That was one of the things that really helped us last year. It’s important to get started well. Individually, all I’m trying to do is whatever will help the team get those W’s.”
Quakes midfielder Sam Cronin
On his right quad:
“It was kind of a gradual thing (injuring it in US camp). It just got real tight. I just wanted to make sure I didn’t bring any nagging injuries into the preseason or the long season. It felt good today, and I didn’t notice it and overall I feel really good now.”
Quakes defender Justin Morrow
On starting camp:
“It’s great to be back, I’m excited about having a year under my belt and knowing how things go. I am excited to make an impact this year. I’m sure I’ll still have to do some of that stuff (rookie duties), but it’s great knowing I have some experience and I am going to come in and work hard.”
Rookie midfielder Anthony Apaipitakwong
On his first MLS training session:
“It feels great, I’m really just happy about the guys being very welcoming with me here. It was nice to get a good sweat in and a lot of the guys were talking to me and getting to know me and even asked a little bit about my background. That’s something that I appreciate and makes me feel comfortable here.”
On the California sunshine:
“Oh my gosh, I couldn’t ask for anything better. I am in a short sleeve shirt, the sun is out, it's a beautiful day. There is no better soccer weather.”
Rookie goalkeeper David Bingham
On landing in San Jose:
“This is a place close to home and I think it’s a good fit. I didn’t really have a huge preference, but it's really nice to go to a team you grew up watching, even back when it was the Clash a long time ago.”
On learning under starter, Jon Busch:
“He is a real good guy, and everything I hear from players is that he is a good mentor for young goalies. So, I’m looking forward to learning everything I can from him.”
