Quakes complete SoCal trip with 2-1 win over VCF

OXNARD, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes completed their trip to Southern California with a 2-1 win over the Ventura County Fusion on Friday afternoon at Oxnard Community College. With a lineup of trialists and young players, the Quakes took a 2-0 lead on first-half goals from Tony Donatelli and a trialist before closing out the 2-1 win.


Donatelli struck just six minutes into the game on a shot from eight yards out. He got the ball inside the box and maneuvered around a defender before finishing to the left corner.


Omar Jasseh helped the Quakes double the lead in the 28th minute as he sprung a trialist on a breakaway with a ball over the top. The trialist slotted the ball with his left foot to the lower corner for a 2-0 advantage.


The Fusion pulled goal back in the 57th minute, but the Quakes finished out the game for a 2-1 win.


San Jose ends its week-long trip to Ventura County with a 1-1-1 record against Chivas USA, the LA Galaxy and the Fusion. The Quakes return to training Monday in San Jose before departing for a 10-day trip to London on Feb. 17. The Quakes will train from Feb. 17-27 at Tottenham Hotspur’s training facility.
