Demolition on FMC Buildings Begins March 3
Demolition of the Food Machinery Corporation building on the site of the proposed San Jose Earthquakes stadium will begin on Thursday, March 3 at noon. The building currently stands adjacent to the San Jose International Airport at 1125 Coleman Avenue.

Exhibition with MLS Cup Champion Colorado Rapids On Tap
Fresh off a 10-day training camp in England, the San Jose Earthquakes will face defending MLS Cup Champion the Colorado Rapids in a friendly at Cal Poly’s Alex G. Spanos Stadium on Friday at 7 p.m. The exhibition match marks the third time in four years the Earthquakes have traveled to San Luis Obispo for preseason action. Cal Poly’s men’s soccer coach and event organizer Paul Holocher was an original member of the San Jose Earthquakes in 1996. For tickets, visit GoPoly.com or call (805) 756-5806.

Quakes to Play Portland Timbers at Buck Shaw Stadium on March 12
The San Jose Earthquakes will conclude their preseason with an exhibition against the expansion Portland Timbers at Buck Shaw Stadium on March 12. The Saturday scrimmage will be closed to the public.

Troy Dayak Joins Earthquakes Youth Academy Staff
The Earthquakes announced on Monday that club icon Troy Dayak would rejoin the organization as the Technical Advisor to the Youth Academy. In his first week with the club, Dayak mentored four kids from the Quakes Youth Academy during a 10-day trip to London. Dayak arranged for Travis Pillon (Head-Royce School), Nick Lima (Castro Valley High School), Alfred Edmonds (Bellarmine Prep High School) and Sam Engs (College Prep High School) to train with the Tottenham Hotspur Under-16’s and spent time working with the group during practice sessions and matches with the Earthquakes senior roster. Dayak won two MLS Cups with San Jose (2001 and 2003) and was named the 2001 MLS Comeback Player of the Year.

Quakes Close Trip to London with 2-1 Record
The San Jose Earthquakes wrapped up a 10-day training camp on the grounds of club partner Tottenham Hotspur over the weekend. During the trip, the Earthquakes won matches against reserve squads from Birmingham City (4-0) and Colchester United (3-0) and lost to Leicester City (3-1). Steven Lenhart and Chris Wondolowski were the leading scorers for the trip with two goals apiece.

Academy Players Train with Tottenham Hotspur Academy in London
Quakes U-16 players Travis Pillon (Head-Royce School), Samuel Engs (College Prep High School), Alfred Edmonds (Bellarmine Prep High School) and Nick Lima (Castro Valley High School) practiced with the Tottenham Hotspur U-16 Academy last week during the Earthquakes 10-day trip to England. Academy coach and Earthquakes legend Troy Dayak was in camp to oversee the group.

Kaval’s Kickoff Debuts on SJEarthquakes.com
The San Jose Earthquakes announced last week that President Dave Kaval will write a weekly blog, Kaval’s Kickoff, for the team’s official website sjearthquakes.com. Kaval’s first installment appeared Friday on the website, but the blog will typically run on Mondays throughout the season. The first installment touches on a variety of subjects, including the team’s trip to England, the upcoming stadium demolition and stadium design. Kaval is an experienced author having written The Summer that Saved Baseball, which was published in 2000. The book chronicles Kaval’s summer journey in 1998 to visit all 30 Major League Baseball stadiums in 38 days. Quakes Add Three FOX Soccer Telecasts for 2011
The San Jose Earthquakes will appear three times on FOX Soccer in 2011 bringing their total number of national television appearances to six this season. The Quakes will appear once on ESPN2, once on Telefutura and once on Galavision in addition to the three FOX Soccer matches. The Quakes appear on FOX Soccer on back-to-back weekends on Friday, June 17 at Sporting Kansas City and Saturday, June 25 at home against the LA Galaxy. The June 17 game at Kansas City was originally scheduled for June 18 and the June 25 match against the Galaxy will now kick off at 8 p.m. PT. The Quakes then play Seattle Sounders FC at Qwest Field on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 7:30 p.m. PT to round out their FOX Soccer schedule. San Jose’s other national television appearances include April 23 against Chivas USA at Buck Shaw Stadium on Telefutura, June 4 against the Houston Dynamo at home on Galavision and July 2 against the New York Red Bulls on ESPN2 at home.
