Young Earthquakes squad tops Cal Poly, 1-0

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The San Jose Earthquakes improved to 6-2-1 during the preseason with a 1-0 win against Cal Poly at Alex G. Spanos Stadium on Saturday.


Playing with a mostly young group and a pair of trialists, the Earthquakes broke through in the second half as Bobby Convey fed trialist Matt Luzunaris for a close-range finish. Convey saw his first scrimmage time since San Jose's one-week camp in Ventura from Feb. 6 through Feb. 11.


Saturday's friendly was played behind closed doors with two 30-minute halves. The Quakes return to San Jose for two weeks and will play one final closed-door frendly against the Portland Timbers on Saturday, March 12.
