SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes won the ADchievement Award for Television Commercial at the National Sports Forum, a prestigious contest that recognizes the top campaign from major and minor league teams, retail stores and television networks in the sports industry.

San Jose’s 2010 ad campaign included two commercials. The spots featured dual action sequences – a calamitous event followed by a Quakes goal call. The first spot features a hitchhiker who is blindsided by a concrete mixer truck for a magnitude of 5.4. In the second, an attempt at opening a bag of chips results in a female employee knocking a pot of scalding coffee into the lap of a coworker for a 5.2 magnitude. In both commercials, the ensuing Quakes goal sequence nets a 9.3 on the Richter scale.

The Quakes were also finalists in Alternative Media for their use of “Win Pins” in 2010. After each home win, fans at Buck Shaw Stadium received a commemorative pin as well as a discount to a local merchant.

ADchievement Award categories also included Radio, Print, Out-of-Home, In-Stadium/In-Arena, Sales Collateral and Internet/Web-Based. For more information on the NSF ADchievement Awards, visit: http://www.sports-forum.com/adchievement/.

About the NSF ADchievement Awards
The NSF ADchievement Awards recognize the best sports-themed advertising from the previous year in eight different categories. Each year, major and minor league teams, colleges, non-profit organizations, players associations, retail stores, and television networks submit their best advertising from the previous year. A preliminary judging panel of diverse advertising experts whittles the submissions down to the top six in each category. The top six in each category are then displayed at the annual National Sports Forum and attendees vote to select the category winners. In addition, the organization judged to have the best advertising across all categories is honored with the Overall Award of Excellence.
