The Earthquakes hit the road for the first time in 2011, traveling to FC Dallas for a match at Pizza Hut Park at 6 p.m. PT. Fans can tune in on KDOW 1220 or KZSF 1370. San Jose is coming off a 1-0 loss to Real Salt Lake, a match that was played in a torrential downpour at Buck Shaw Stadium. FC Dallas opened its season with a 1-1 draw against the Chicago Fire on Saturday in Frisco, Texas.

The San Jose Earthquakes fell in their season opener 1-0 against Real Salt Lake on a rain-drenched field Saturday night at Buck Shaw Stadium. Kyle Beckerman scored the game winner in the 63rd minute, blasting a shot from 25 yards out off the left post and in. The Earthquakes made a fervent push to find an equalizer and had several chances to score, but ultimately fell short. Recent Tottenham Hotspur loan acquisition Simon Dawkins made his San Jose debut and nearly created a goal after darting up the middle and sliding a pass that found Chris Wondolowski in the area. The 2010 Budweiser Golden Boot winner pounded a shot on goal, but Real Salt Lake goalkeeper Nick Rimando got a hand to the shot while diving to his right.

The San Jose Earthquakes earned a 0-0 draw with red-hot FC Dallas on Saturday night, a team riding an MLS-best 14-game unbeaten streak. The Quakes defense preserved their ninth shutout on the season, and Jon Busch picked up his third. San Jose threatened to take all three points late, when Eduardo latched on to the end of a fantastic ball played through by Designated Player Geovanni; however, his attempt on goal went just wide.

The Oregonian: San Jose is Soccer City USA
San Jose is Soccer City USA according to a scientific study performed by The Oregonian. While Portland claimed itself to be the top soccer city in America, the publication set out to prove which town truly deserved the title. The study found that San Jose was the real champion, picking up big points for the success of the San Jose Earthquakes, the city’s overall participation from the youth ranks up to adult leagues and tournaments hosted. Comcast SportsNet TV Schedule Announced
The San Jose Earthquakes announced last week that Comcast SportsNet (CSN) will again televise a minimum of 16 Earthquakes games in 2011 in High Definition. Ten games will air on Comcast SportsNet California, five games on Comcast SportsNet Bay Area and one on Comcast SportsNet Plus. Additionally, the Earthquakes will make four national television appearances. All of San Jose’s matches can also be found on the MLS Direct Kick Package.

2011 Radio Broadcast Schedule Released
The San Jose Earthquakes announced last week their English and Spanish language radio broadcast partners for the 2011 season. KZSF 1370 AM “La Kaliente” will increase their broadcasts to cover all games in Spanish after airing only home games in 2010. The Quakes will split time between KDOW 1220 AM and KTRB 860 AM in English. The Earthquakes local television broadcast schedule will be announced later this week.

Dawkins Joins Earthquakes on Loan from Tottenham Hotspur
The Earthquakes acquired midfielder Simon Dawkins on loan from Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday. The 23-year-old English native debuted for San Jose on Saturday in a 1-0 loss against Real Salt Lake at Buck Shaw Stadium. Dawkins subbed on for captain Ramiro Corrales in the 65th minute and made an immediate impact, creating a scoring chance for teammate Chris Wondolowski that would have equalized for San Jose. Prior to joining the Earthquakes, Dawkins was a member of the Tottenham Hotspur Academy and Reserves.

Earthquakes Sign Former Hertha BSC Reservist Ellis McLoughlin
The San Jose Earthquakes announced last week that they signed former Hertha BSC forward Ellis McLoughlin. Like Dawkins, McLoughlin made his Earthquakes debut on Saturday against Real Salt Lake. The striker subbed on for Joey Gjertsen in the 71st minute. McLoughlin signed with Hertha Berlin of the German Bundesliga in January 2008 after impressing with the United States U-17 National Team. He played with the Blue-Whites reserves before suffering an injury in January 2009. Prior to his stint in Germany, the Seattle native spent one season at the University of Washington where he had three goals and three assists in 13 matches.

Kelly Gray Joins Earthquakes as Club Ambassador
Former Earthquakes defender Kelly Gray rejoined the organization as club ambassador, the team announced last week. Gray’s duties will include community appearances, weekly blogs on SJEarthquakes.com, co-hosting the Quakes pregame show from the Epicenter Fan Zone and contributions to the Quakes video content on the team’s YouTube channel and official website. He will also serve as a color analyst on a select number of radio broadcasts in 2011.

Hernandez Visits Lowell Elementary in San Jose for Amway Kicks for Kids
Earthquakes defender Jason Hernandez visited Lowell Elementary in San Jose on Wednesday, March 16 kicking off the 2011 Amway Kicks for Kids program. In its third year of existence, Amway Kicks for Kids teaches local youth about the importance of a healthy diet and an active lifestyle. At the appearance, Hernandez and Earthquakes staff handed out 150 replica jersey t-shirts and 250 tickets to San Jose’s match against Real Salt Lake, courtesy of Amway.

Quakes Open Reserve Division Play on Tuesday vs. Vancouver Whitecaps
The San Jose Earthquakes will open Reserve Division play on Tuesday, March 22 against the Vancouver Whitecaps. The match will be played at the Nutrilite Training Facility and will kickoff at 11 a.m. MLS reinstated the Reserve Division in 20111 after a two-year absence. Among the notable alumni from the previous version is 2010 Budweiser Golden Boot winner and Earthquakes leading scorer Chris Wondolowski.

Bon Appétit, yorder, Gourmet Food Trucks Debut at Buck Shaw Stadium
Fans were treated to a special experience at Buck Shaw Stadium on Saturday in the Earthquakes 1-0 loss against Real Salt Lake. Despite the result and weather, those in attendance dined on a revamped menu courtesy of new concessionaire Bon Appétit and on food from BBQ Kalbi, Kara’s Cupcakes, Tikka Bytes and El Tonayense. In addition to better food options, fans were able to order from their seats using iPhone and Android app yorder.

Quakes Launch Official Podcast, Web Magazine Show
Amidst the festivities leading up to First Kick in San Jose, the Earthquakes launched their official podcast and magazine show on SJEarthquakes.com last week. The Quakes Cast with hosts Robert Jonas, Joe Nuxoll and Kelly Gray is available for download on iTunes and Buzzsprout.com and can be found each Thursday on SJEarthquakes.com. Gray will also be a co-host on the club’s weekly Web show, Quakes Exclusive, alongside Miguel Duarte.

Khari Stephenson Receives Jamaica Call-Up
San Jose Earthquakes’ midfielder Khari Stephenson has been called back up to the Jamaican National Team after a two-year absence. He will join the Reggae Boyz as they host Venezuela in Montego Bay on March 25 and then face El Salvador two days later in San Salvador. Stephenson has 26 caps for Jamaica, most of them earned from 2004 through ’06, when he was a regular member of the side, and has scored 3 goals.

Road Warriors
With a 2010 road record of 6-5-4, the Earthquakes had more wins on the road than the team had in 2008 and 2009 combined. In 2008, the Earthquakes went 2-8-5 on the road in their first season back. In 2009, the Earthquakes went 1-10-5 with the lone win coming against D.C. United on September 27, 2009 at RFK Stadium. With 22 points on the road, the Earthquakes doubled the 11 points the team had in 2008 for the most points earned on the road since the team returned. The franchise record for points on the road in a single season is 30 points, achieved in 2005. Last season, the Earthquakes had the second highest winning percentage on the road in the MLS with a .533 clip, along with FC Dallas. The Los Angeles Galaxy had the highest (.700). Finally, the six wins the Earthquakes had on the road were tied for the second most road wins along with the Seattle Sounders FC. The Los Angeles Galaxy had the most road wins in MLS with nine. San Jose will look to start things off on the right foot in their first trip away from home in the 2011 campaign.

History of the Quakes – FC Dallas Rivalry
The Earthquakes were 9-1-4 in the final 14 games against Dallas prior to San Jose’s relocation to Houston following the 2005 season … The Quakes posted a seven-game winning streak during that stretch from July 20, 2002-Apr. 15, 2004 … San Jose and Dallas met in an important match on Oct. 16, 2004, as San Jose needed a win or a tie to advance to the playoffs, while Dallas needed a win to clinch the final berth in the playoffs. The two teams played to a 2-2 tie at the Cotton Bowl, giving San Jose a spot in the playoffs, while Dallas did not qualify. Ramiro Corrales scored the Quakes second goal in that game … On Sept. 27, 2003, San Jose’s Dwayne De Rosario scored the fastest goal from the start of the game in MLS history, netting a goal 11 seconds into the match at Spartan Stadium against Dallas. De Rosario would go on to net a hat trick in the game, the second hat trick in Quakes team history … The Quakes +20 goal differential against Dallas is the highest against any team in the league.

2010 San Jose-FC Dallas Matches
The Earthquakes will try to improve on last season’s results after finishing 0-1-1 against FC Dallas. In the first meeting on June 5, 2010 at Pizza Hut Park, FC Dallas earned a 2-0 victory thanks to a brace from Brek Shea. In the re-match at Buck Shaw Stadium on Sept. 11, 2010, the two sides battled to a scoreless draw, with current goalkeepers Kevin Hartman and Jon Busch earning shutouts.

Wondo Could Extend Record Scoring Streak
From Sept. 15 to Oct. 23 of last year, San Jose forward Chris Wondolowski scored all 10 of the Earthquakes goals to close out the season, setting the all-time MLS record for the most consecutive goals scored by one player in league play. Wondolowksi passed former Los Angeles Galaxy forward Carlos Ruiz, who scored nine straight for the Los Angeles Galaxy from 2002-2003. After the being shutout in the season opener against Real Salt Lake, Wondolowski can extend his streak by scoring the Quakes first goal against FC Dallas.
