San Jose Hosts Chivas USA at Buck Shaw Stadium
The San Jose Earthquakes search for their first home win of the season on Saturday, April 23, as they welcome Chivas USA to Buck Shaw Stadium for a matinee kick-off at 1 p.m. PT. The match will be broadcast live on television on Comcast SportsNet California (English) and Telefutura (Spanish), and on the radio on KDOW 1220 (English) and KZSF 1370 (Spanish).

The San Jose Earthquakes were defeated on the road for the first time in 2011, dropping a 3-0 result against the New York Red Bulls. The home team jumped out to an early lead in the second minute thanks to a goal from Luke Rodgers. The Englishman wrapped up his brace just 13 minutes later, and Designated Player Thierry Henry finished up the scoring in the 87th minute. It was San Jose’s first trip back to Red Bull Arena since the Quakes ousted New York from the 2010 MLS Cup Playoffs with a 3-1 win (3-2 aggregate) on Nov. 4 in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

The San Jose Earthquakes defeated Chivas USA thanks to a hat-trick from Chris Wondolowski, his second of the season. He scored all three goals in the second half, starting with a penalty kick that he drew himself in the 55th minute. Wondolowski struck again in the 59th and 72nd minutes, tying San Jose’s striker for the lead in the MLS Golden Boot race with Los Angeles Galaxy forward Edson Buddle. Those goals, his 15th, 16th and 17th of the season, allowed Wondolowski to break Ronald Cerritos club record for most goals in a season. Quakes goalkeeper Jon Busch made three saves to earn the shutout.

Earthquakes to Hold Earth Day Celebration this Saturday, April 23 at Buck Shaw Stadium
The San Jose Earthquakes will host an Earth Day Celebration, presented by the County of Santa Clara Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Program, on Saturday, April 23 when they face off against Chivas USA at Buck Shaw Stadium at 1 p.m. PT. All fans in attendance will receive a reusable shopping bag, courtesy of the County of Santa Clara HHW Program. The night will feature additional giveaway items as the Quakes partner with MLS W.O.R.K.S., the charitable arm of Major League Soccer. Furthermore, the Earthquakes have teamed up with MLS W.O.R.K.S. to offset the carbon footprint for energy used at the stadium that night. Finally, Fans who drive a Hybrid car to the game will receive $5 off parking, while patrons who take VTA or Caltrain to the match will receive a $5 discount for a game ticket by showing their VTA or Caltrain receipt.

San Jose to Face Stanford University in Exhibition on Tuesday, April 19
The Earthquakes are set to play against Stanford University in a scrimmage on Tuesday, April 19. The exhibition will kick off at 7 p.m. at Stanford University and will feature the San Jose Earthquakes Reserves against the Stanford men’s soccer team.

San Jose Partners Up with Fresh Coast Beach Soccer Tournament
The San Jose Earthquakes announced last week that they have signed a tournament partnership with the Fresh Coast Beach Soccer Championships. This year, the 5-on-5 tournament will be held on June 18 and 19 in front of the famous Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk in Santa Cruz, California. There will be several youth, men’s and women’s divisions, with an open men’s cash prize division. The Quakes will be providing each team ticket vouchers to see the team take on either the New York Red Bulls or Philadelphia Union. Several Earthquakes players will also make an appearance to meet with fans, sign autographs and take photos.

Earthquakes Reserves to Play Chivas USA on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. PT
The San Jose Earthquakes Reserves will face the Chivas USA Reserves on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. PT at the Nutrilite Training Facility. The match will be the San Jose’s third reserve fixture of the season after defeating the Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2-1 in their opener and losing 1-0 against Seattle Sounders FC on April 3. The Chivas USA Reserves tied 0-0 in their only match-up of the season against Vancouver Whitecaps FC.

The San Jose Earthquakes marketing department has released the newest addition to their 2011 ad campaign “Earthquakes Vs.” In this edition, Quakes goalkeeper Jon Busch takes on San Jose Sharks defenseman Jason Demers in a shootout. Academy Teams Defeated by Cal Odyssey at Nutrilite Training Facility
Both Earthquakes Academy teams were in action over the weekend at the Nutrilite Training Facility, falling to Cal Odyssey in both matches. The U16’s were beaten 2-0 with both goals coming from Odyssey’s Jordan Patterson. The U18’s fell 4-2, despite Evan Filipczyk (Woodside Priory College Prep HS) and Everardo Aguilar (Livermore HS) scoring on either side of halftime for the Quakes. The Quakes will head to Sacramento to take on the California Development Academy at Hornet Soccer Stadium on May 1, before returning home to the Mustang Soccer Complex in Danville on May 7 and 8 to take on De Anza Force and Santa Cruz Breakers Academy.

July 2 Match vs. New York Red Bulls to be Played at Stanford Stadium
The San Jose Earthquakes announced two weeks ago that the club has moved their Saturday, July 2 match against international stars Thierry Henry and Rafa Márquez and the New York Red Bulls to Stanford Stadium in Stanford, Calif. The game will kick off at 7:30 p.m. PT and air live on ESPN2. Following the match, the Earthquakes will treat fans to the best fireworks show on the Peninsula for the Fourth of July weekend. Fans can stay in their seats or move onto the field for the best view to watch the fireworks. The Epicenter Fan Zone will be moved from Buck Shaw Stadium to Stanford for the match. Fans will be able to enjoy foosball, corn hole, face painting and poster making prior to kickoff. Gourmet food trucks will also be on site.

Earthquakes to Play Portland Timbers at JELD-WEN Field on May 3 in U.S. Open Cup Play-In Match
The San Jose Earthquakes announced two weeks ago that the club will play the Portland Timbers at JELD-WEN Field in Portland, Ore. on Tuesday, May 3 in a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Play-in game. The match will kick off at 7:30 p.m. PT. The winner will face the Chicago Fire, who defeated the Colorado Rapids in their first U.S. Open Cup Play-in game last month. If the Quakes defeat Portland and Chicago, they will enter the main draw of the U.S. Open Cup along with seven other MLS clubs.

The Earthquakes own a 3-4-4 all-time record against Chivas USA ... The two teams met for the first time on April 9 at Spartan Stadium during the 2005 season, a wild back-and-forth game ending in a 3-3 draw … During the 2005 season, San Jose and Chivas USA met three additional times: a 1-1 draw on June 12 at The Home Depot Center, a 3-0 win for the Earthquakes on Sept. 10 at Spartan Stadium, and a 2-1 win for the Earthquakes on Sept. 17 at The Home Depot Center … Since returning in 2008, the Earthquakes have yet to defeat Chivas USA in a regular season game.
