Convey, McLoughlin nominated for MLS Goal of the Week

Bobby Convey goal celebration vs. New England Revolution 052111

Bobby Convey lit up social networks with his spectacular free kick over the weekend and now he and teammate Ellis McLoughlin are up against Philadelphia's Carlos Ruiz for MLS Goal of the Week.

Convey's free kick would be an unquestioned winner in most weeks after he bent a spot kick into the far corner for the game winner against the New England Revolution in the 81st minute on Saturday. The 2010 MLS Comeback Player of the Year picked up bonus points for the bend on his shot and for curling the ball into the far post, a shot that couldn't have been much more perfectly placed.

Meanwhile, McLaughlin's powerful header for the first goal in San Jose's 2-1 win also drew nomination. The collective build up received consideration on this goal with Chris Wondolowski creating space on the wing before directing a pictureesque cross to the far post that McLoughlin squared up to for an emphatic finish.

Candidates for this week's poll include Convey, McLoughlin, Ruiz, Dane Richards of New York and Michael Farfan of Philadelphia.
