The San Jose Earthquakes won their third straight home match with a 2-0 win over the Houston Dynamo on Saturday night at Buck Shaw Stadium. Steven Lenhart broke a scoreless tie with a diving header into the lower corner in the 69th minute and Simon Dawkins sealed the game in stoppage time with his third goal of the year. The win stretched San Jose’s unbeaten run to five games. After another scoreless first half, the Quakes again found their offensive touch in the second stanza. Steven Beitashour found Lenhart with a perfect cross for the first goal and with time winding down, Sam Cronin slipped a through ball to Dawkins, who finished to the near post. The Quakes have now scored nine second-half goals in the past four games.

Earthquakes 2, D.C. United 0; Oct. 9, 2010; RFK Stadium, Washington D.C.
The San Jose Earthquakes knocked off D.C. United 2-0 at RFK Stadium, and when Seattle beat the Kansas City Wizards 2-1 later that night, the Quakes clinched their first playoff berth since their return to MLS in 2008. MVP candidate Chris Wondolowski scored twice in the span of 10 minutes on Saturday night, giving him 14 goals on the season, two behind LA Galaxy forward Edson Buddle. The Danville native scored his first goal of the night in the 45th minute, volleying home a vicious strike from inside the area on service from Tim Ward. Wondo hit another volley later in the match, this time with his left food from just outside the 6-yard box after a cross from Bobby Convey bounced out of the mixer. The win combined with other results around the league that day sealed San Jose’s first MLS Cup Playoff Berth since returning to the league in 2008.

Convey Returns To D.C.
Earthquakes left back and midfielder Bobby Convey became the youngest player ever signed by Major League Soccer at 16 years old when he was selected No. 12 overall in the first round of the 2000 MLS SuperDraft by D.C. United. Convey played with D.C. United from 2000-2004, scoring eight goals and notching 16 assists in 89 games. Following his stint in the nation’s capital, Convey signed with Reading FC where he helped the club achieve promotion from the Football League Championship to the English Premier League in 2006. Convey was a fixture on the US National Team under Bruce Arena and was a starter on the 2006 US World Cup squad. He signed with the San Jose Earthquakes on Feb. 10, 2009 and won 2010 MLS Comeback Player of the Year honors after recording a team-high 10 assists.

Unbeaten Streak at Five
The San Jose Earthquakes are now unbeaten in five straight games following a 2-0 win against the Houston Dynamo on June 4. The Quakes streak started on May 11 with a 1-1 tie against Vancouver Whitecaps FC. The Quakes then defeated the Columbus Crew 3-0 and the New England Revolution 2-1 before recording a 2-2 tie in Chicago. The Quakes last had an unbeaten streak of four games from Sept. 5 to Sept. 25 last season. San Jose also finished the month of May unbeaten at 2-0-2. The last unbeaten month for San Jose was in September of 2009 when the team posted a 1-0-2 record in three league matches.

Wondolowski Earns Second Cap with U.S. National Team vs. Spain
Chris Wondolowski came off the bench and played 45 minutes as a substitute for the US National Team on Saturday in a 4-0 loss against FIFA No. 1 ranked Spain at Gillette Stadium. The San Jose Earthquakes forward has been in camp with the US since May 30 and will stick with the squad through the CONCACAF Gold Cup. The US opens Gold Cup play against Canada on Tuesday at 5 p.m. PT on FOX Soccer.

Lenhart Nominated for MLS Goal of the Week
Steven Lenhart scored his first career goal with the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday in a 2-0 win against the Houston Dynamo and now finds himself on the ballot for MLS Goal of the Week. Lenhart hammered home a beautiful cross from second-year defender Steven Beitashour with a diving header to the near post. The goal stood up as the game winner to extend San Jose's unbeaten streak to five. Also nominated this week are Nick LaBrocca (Chivas USA), Jean Alexandre (Real Salt Lake), Marvin Chavez (FC Dallas) and Danny Mwanga (Philadelphia Union). Quakes Kickoff Xfinity Soccer Clinic Series
The San Jose Earthquakes kicked off their 2011 Xfinity Soccer Clinic Series with a filled-to-capacity event at Starbird Park in San Jose, Calif. last week on Wednesday. The series features five free soccer clinics for kids 8-to-12 years old over the course of the summer and will be operated by Earthquakes players. Wednesday’s clinic saw 125 local youths participate in drills and scrimmages under the guidance of Earthquakes General Manager John Doyle and players Brandon McDonald, Ike Opara, Bobby Burling, Jason Hernandez and David Bingham. Participants also took home a ticket to Saturday’s match against the Houston Dynamo, a soccer ball and autographs from the players on hand courtesy of Xfinity. Next up on the clinic series are a June 23 date in Newark, Calif. and July 28 in Union City, Calif.

Francis O’Keefe of Sunnyvale Named Odwalla Player of the Month
The San Jose Earthquakes announce last week that Francis O'Keefe of Sunnyvale, Calif. was named the Odwalla Player of the Month for May. At 15 years old, O'Keefe has experience on two sides of soccer, both as a player and as a certified AYSO Regional Referee. He has been a fan of the beautiful game since an early age and kicked off his playing career while playing AYSO in Millbrae at seven years old for the Black Knights. From there, O'Keefe moved to Sunnyvale and joined up with AYSO West San Jose and Cupertino Middle School. In the spring of 2010, he was asked to join the AYSO Region 64 U-19 Select squad coached by Mark Arrouzet, allowing O'Keefe the opportunity to play alongside his older brother, Anthony. Francis quickly found his nitch as a starting attacker and finished the spring tied for the team lead in goals scored. During the fall season, he led the team in goals and assists. O'Keefe continued his play on Arrouzet's squad this year and is anxious for his sophomore season with the Fremont High School Firebirds next winter.

1994 World Cup Reunion July 2 at Stanford Stadium
The San Jose Earthquakes announced last week that they will host a reunion for the players of the 1994 United States World Cup team around their game against the New York Red Bulls on July 2 at Stanford Stadium. The players will attend a pregame meet and greet with select fans before being honored on the field at halftime of the Quakes match at the same stadium where the U.S. faced Brazil in the second round of the FIFA World Cup on July 4, 1994. Players currently scheduled to attend the match are Tab Ramos, Thomas Dooley, Marcelo Balboa, Paul Caligiuri, Fernando Clavijo, Mike Sorber, Juergen Sommer and Cobi Jones. More members of the squad may be confirmed in the coming weeks. Any fan that attended the 1994 U.S. game against Brazil will receive complimentary ticket to the Quakes-Red Bulls game on July 2. Each fan will have to present a ticket stub or proof of attendance at the match in order to redeem a complimentary ticket. Fans can redeem the tickets at the Earthquakes Front Office at 451 El Camino Real, Suite 220 in Santa Clara or at the box office on game day.

Second Half Success
After scoring just one goal in the second half in the first eight games of the season, the Quakes have become a second half team during the past four matches. The Quakes have combined for nine second-half goals in their last four outings, each of which entered the half at 0-0. Against the Columbus Crew on May 14, San Jose scored three goals to win 3-0 and then followed that effort with a two-goal second half to beat the New England Revolution 2-1 on May 21. Against the Chicago Fire on May 28, San Jose scored two second half goals to pick up a 2-2 tie. Finally, the Quakes broke through for a pair in the second stanza against the Houston Dynamo on Saturday in a 2-0 win at Buck Shaw Stadium.

Steven Lenhart Scores First Career Goal
Quakes forward Stephen Lenhart was awarded the first goal of his career in San Jose on Saturday against the Houston Dynamo with a beautiful diving header. Lenhart was temporarily credited with a goal against the Columbus Crew on May 14, but MLS reviewed the play and ruled that the shot caromed off of teammate Brandon McDonald’s back. The Earthquakes acquired Lenhart in an offseason trade for the club’s first pick in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft and allocation money.

Steven Beitashour Earns First Career Assist
Quakes second-year defender Stephen Beitashour earned his first career assist on Saturday against the Houston Dynamo. He set up Steven Lenhart for a Steven-to-Steven connection in the 69th minute to help San Jose earn a 2-0 win at home. The goal earned a spot on the MLS Goal of the Week ballot.

Wondolowski Ties De Rosario for Fourth Place All Time on the Quakes’ Scoring Charts
San Jose Earthquakes forward Chris Wondolowski scored his sixth goal of the season on May 28 against the Chicago Fire. With the goal, he tied Dwayne De Rosario for third place all-time in Quakes team history in all-time goals with 27. He is five goals behind Landon Donovan for second place. The career leader for the Quakes is Ronald Cerritos, who notched 61 from 1997-2001 and in 2005.

Busch the Shot Stopper
Twelve games into the season, Earthquakes goalkeeper Jon Busch is No. 4 in the league in saves with 42. Toronto FC’s Stefan Frei leads the pack with 51 saves in 14 matches while Seattle Sounders FC’s Kasey Keller is next on the list with 46 saves in 15 matches. New England Revolution keeper Matt Reis is No. 3 with 43 saves in 10 matches.

Wondolowski Named to U.S. National Team for CONCACAF Gold Cup
San Jose Earthquakes forward Chris Wondolowski reported to US National Team camp in Cary, N.C. on Sunday ahead of a friendly against Spain on June 4 and the CONCACAF Gold Cup. The United States plays Spain in a friendly match prior to the start of the Gold Cup on Saturday, June 4 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. Following that friendly, the U.S. will begin play in Group C on Tuesday, June 7 with a match against Canada at Ford Field in Detroit. The Americans then face Panama on June 11 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla., before concluding group play on June 14 against Guadeloupe at Livestrong Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kan. The quarterfinals begin on June 18 with the semifinal matches scheduled for June 22. The Gold Cup final will be played Saturday, June 25 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. Wondolowski has been called up once before to represent his country. He spent the month of January earlier this year in Southern California at a training camp at The Home Depot Center. He started and played 60 minutes for the U.S. against Chile at The Home Depot Center on Jan. 22 to earn his first cap.

Johnson Named to Jamaican National Team for CONCACAF Gold Cup
Ryan Johnson was named to the roster for the Jamaican National Team for the upcoming CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament to be held in the United States. Johnson has joined the Jamaican team for a training camp in Brazil that will run from May 23-June 2. Jamaica has been drawn into Group B along with Grenada, Guatemala, and Honduras. Jamaica will open up their 2011 Gold Cup campaign against Grenada on Monday, June 6 at the Home Depot Center. The ‘Reggae Boyz’ will take on Guatemala on June 10 at FIU Stadium in Miami, before closing up group stage play against Honduras on June 13 at Red Bull Arena. Jamaica qualified for the quarterfinals of the Gold Cup in both 2003 and 2005. Their best finish was third place in the 1993 tournament. Johnson has currently amassed 12 appearances for the Jamaican national team, scoring three goals, with his debut for the team coming in a friendly against the United States in 2006. All three of Johnson’s international goals came in 2010 against Argentina, Costa Rica, and Guadeloupe. He also helped Jamaica win the 2010 Digicel Cup in December.

Quakes to Host West Bromwich Albion of English Premier League on July 12
The San Jose Earthquakes will host West Bromwich Albion from the English Premier League (EPL) on Tuesday, July 12 at Buck Shaw Stadium at 7:30 p.m. PT. Individual tickets are on sale at SJEarthquakes.com and by calling (800) 225-2277. Season ticket holders should use their Bonus Game “B” ticket for the match. Prices for individual seats range from $20 to $50. West Brom is laden with internationals from around the globe Scott Carson (England), Marek Čech (Slovakia), Somen Tchoyi (Cameroon), Pablo Ibáñez (Spain), James Morrison (Scotland), Steven Reid (Republic of Ireland), Abdoulaye Méïté (Ivory Coast), Gabriel Tamaş (Romania), , Gonzalo Jara (Chile) and Dean Kiely (Republic of Ireland). Ibáñez was a starter for Spain alongside Carlos Puyol at center back during the 2006 World Cup.

Busch Among MLS Career Leaders List for Shutouts
Jon Busch picked up his 56th career clean sheet on Saturday in a 2-0 win against the Houston Dynamo at Buck Shaw Stadium. The Earthquakes’ starting goalkeeper is No. 8 among MLS all-time leaders. He has recorded 10 shutouts in two seasons with San Jose, 21 during three seasons (2007-09) with the Chicago Fire and 25 in five seasons (2002-06) with the Columbus Crew. Next on the list is New England Revolution keeper Matt Reis with 61.

Earthquakes-LA Galaxy Match Time for June 25 Changed to 3:30 p.m. PT
The San Jose Earthquakes have announced that the game time for their June 25 match against the LA Galaxy at Buck Shaw Stadium has been changed to 3:30 p.m. PT on FOX Soccer. Additionally, individual tickets for that game are now on sale. In 2010, Chris Wondolowski stunned a league-leading LA Galaxy squad with a fourth minute goal that would stand up for a 1-0 win. The Earthquakes drew a record crowd of 10,799 at Buck Shaw Stadium for the day game on Aug. 21. San Jose is 3-3-2 against LA Galaxy since returning to MLS in 2008 and holds a 9-7 scoring advantage over that stretch.

July 2 Match vs. New York Red Bulls to be Played at Stanford Stadium
The San Jose Earthquakes have moved their Saturday, July 2 match against international stars Thierry Henry and Rafa Márquez and the New York Red Bulls to Stanford Stadium in Stanford, Calif. The game will kick off at 7:30 p.m. PT and air live on ESPN2. Following the match, the Earthquakes will treat fans to the best fireworks show on the Peninsula for the Fourth of July weekend. Fans can stay in their seats or move onto the field for the best view to watch the fireworks. The Epicenter Fan Zone will be moved from Buck Shaw Stadium to Stanford for the match. Fans will be able to enjoy foosball, corn hole, face painting and poster making prior to kickoff. Gourmet food trucks will also be on site.
