SAN JOSE, Calif. – San Jose Earthquakes players Matt Luzunaris and Anthony Ampaipitakwong will join in celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital on Sunday, June 26 from 10 a.m. PT to 4 p.m. PT at the intersection of Quarry and Welch Roads in Palo Alto, Calif.
The event is open to the community and free of charge. The Earthquakes and the other local sports celebrities will interact with children from the hospital in a number of activities throughout the day. The event includes more than 75 booths with games, arts and crafts, educational activities, skill-building demonstrations, bounce houses, stage performances, and food from local restaurants.
“It’s an honor to be invited to such a momentous event,” said Earthquakes forward Matt Luzunaris. “This event really hits home for me. I can’t wait to see all the great kids, families and staff associated with Lucile Packard again.”
At 12, Luzunaris lost his brother to cancer and his girlfriend was recently declared cancer free after a bout with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. The first-year Earthquakes player has taken an active role in the community and will be making his second appearance at Lucile Packard along with Ampaipitakwong in 2011.
The Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford turns 20 since opening on June 10, 1991. After helping so many children celebrate their birthdays, they are ready to celebrate their own. The hospital has been one of the nation’s top ranked children’s hospitals for exceptional service and historical breakthroughs in transplant, cardiology, neonatology, oncology, and more. Packard Children’s is devoted to the care of children and expectant mothers, and provides pediatric and obstetric medical and surgical services in association with the Stanford University School of Medicine.
