Following a 2-2 draw against the New York Red Bulls in front of 41,028 fans at Stanford Stadium, the San Jose Earthquakes play two matches this week. The Earthquakes will hit the road for their next match against Chivas USA on Wednesday, July 6 at 7:30 p.m. PT. The game will be televised live on Comcast SportsNet California and will be available on the radio at 1220 KDOW (English) and 1370 KZSF (Spanish).

The Quakes then return home on Saturday, July 9 to take on the Philadelphia Union at Buck Shaw Stadium. The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. PT and will feature A&W Root Beer Float Night presented by A&W. In addition, 5,000 fans will receive an A&W Root Beer mug. Fans are invited to come early Saturday to help raise money for ALS research and the American Red Cross. Celebrity scoopers will serve Root Beer floats to fans and all proceeds will benefit these organizations. The event runs from 5:30-7:30 p.m. prior to kickoff. The game will be televised live on Comcast SportsNet Plus and will be available on the radio at 1220 KDOW (English) and 1370 KZSF (Spanish).

A record crowd of 41,028 was on hand for a thrilling 2-2 draw between the San Jose Earthquakes and New York Red Bulls at Stanford Stadium. The attendance was the largest for a non-doubleheader match in San Jose history and the third-largest crowd in team history. Trailing 1-0, Khari Stephenson brought the Earthquakes back with a 37th-minute strike. Stephenson hammered home a loose ball after a corner kick by teammate Simon Dawkins for his third goal of the season. Steven Beitashour linked up with Steven Lenhart in the 68th minute to give the Earthquakes a 2-1 lead. Beitashour sent a perfect cross into the area that Lenhart dove and headed past the outstretched hands of Red Bulls keeper Bouna Coundoul for his fifth goal of 2011.

The San Jose Earthquakes conceded a late goal and lost 2-1 to Chivas USA at Buck Shaw Stadium. Chris Wondolowski gave the Quakes an early 1-0 lead with his third goal of the season in the 16th minute. However, Chivas USA rallied to tie the game through Alejandro Moreno just before halftime and Mariano Trujillo scored the game-winner in the 85th minute.

Philadelphia Union 1, Earthquakes 0; April 30, 2011; PPL Park; Philadelphia, Penn.
The San Jose Earthquakes fell 1-0 on the road after yielding a late penalty against the Philadelphia Union at PPL Park. Quakes defender Jason Hernandez was whistled for a questionable handball in the box while sliding in to prevent a cross by Amobi Okugo in the 75th minute. Sebastien Le Toux converted the resulting penalty, giving the Quakes their third consecutive loss. The match featured five new faces in the Earthquakes lineup. Anthony Ampaipitakwong, Justin Morrow and Steven Lenhart made their first career starts for San Jose while Bobby Burling and Brad Ring each featured in the first XI for the first time this season.

Misc. Notes

Holding Home Court Against New York
Following the 2-2 draw on July 2, the Earthquakes are unbeaten in their last seven regular season home matches against the New York Red Bulls with a 4-0-3 slate dating back to May 8, 2004. In 2004, the Quakes tied against what was then the Metrostars 5-5 on May 8 and then won 3-1 on June 12. One year later, San Jose came from behind to win 2-1 in the two teams' final meeting at Spartan Stadium. In 2008, the Quakes fell behind 1-0 on own goal in the 4th minute only to see Darren Huckerby equalize in the 13th minute for a 1-1 tie. Rounding out the final two meetings during the unbeaten streak, Ryan Johnson scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win on Oct. 3, 2009 and polished off the game winner again in a 4-0 rout on May 8, 2010.

Scoring Returns
After going scoreless for two straight games, the San Jose Earthquakes scored twice against the New York Red Bulls on July 2. San Jose is now sixth in MLS with 22 goals and fourth in goals per game at 1.38. Last season, San Jose ranked 12th in goals scored in MLS with 34.

Wondo Back
Quakes forward Chris Wondolowski returned to the San Jose lineup on July 2 against the New York Red Bulls. He missed four matches for San Jose from June 4-25 while playing for the United States in the CONCACAF Gold Cup. Wondolowski started at right midfield for the Quakes and played 90 minutes.

Corrales Hits 200
Veteran defender Ramiro Corrales played his 200th career game for the Earthquakes Saturday night against the New York Red Bulls. He made his first appearance on April 28, 1996 against the LA Galaxy.

Three Straight vs. Chivas USA
Last season’s Budweiser MLS Golden Boot winner Chris Wondolowski has been a thorn in the side of Chivas USA, scoring in three straight games against the Quakes’ Southern California rivals. Wondolowski scored on April 24, 2010 at Chivas and then notched his second career hat trick on Oct. 20 in a 3-0 Quakes win. He also scored on April 23, 2011 in the first meeting of the Quakes and Chivas this season.

Lenhart Hot Streak Continues
Steven Lenhart has been on a good run recently for San Jose. He notched the Quakes’ second goal on July 2 against the New York Red Bulls. He now has five goals and one assist in his past five matches for the Quakes. With five goals this year, he is one goal away from his career high for a season. He is also just two goals shy of 20 for his career.

Beitashour-Lenhart: Third Time’s a Charm
Earthquakes defender Steven Lenhart has three assists this season, each of which has set up Steven Lenhart. Beitashour assisted on Lenhart goals on June 4 against the Houston Dynamo, June 11 against D.C. United and July 2 against the New York Red Bulls.

Earthquakes 4v4, Presented by Wells Fargo
The San Jose Earthquakes will kick off their first 4v4 Tournament presented by Wells Fargo on Saturday, July 23. Registration is open at www.sjearthquakes.com/4v4. The Earthquakes 4v4 Presented by Wells Fargo are adult and youth 4v4 soccer tournaments that will take place on three upcoming weekends. The first tournament is set for July 23 at Independence High School in San Jose, followed by tournaments on Aug. 28 at Cesar Chavez Academy in East Palo Alto and Sept. 18 at Alden Oliver Sports Park in Hayward. Divisions include boys and girls U-8 through U-19, Men’s and Women’s Rec, Adult CoEd and Men’s Open. Prizes will be awarded to the first and second place teams in all divisions. All participants receive an Earthquakes ticket, event t-shirt, and other gifts. There will also be appearances by Earthquakes players. Participation fees are $120 for Youth and Adult Rec, and $150 for Men’s Open

Wondo Nominated for an ESPY
San Jose Earthquakes and US National Team forward Chris Wondolowski has been nominated for an ESPY in the Best MLS Player category after his meteoric rise to become the top goal scorer in the league over the last two seasons. Others nominated for Best MLS Player include Edson Buddle, formerly of the LA Galaxy, Landon Donovan of the LA Galaxy and David Ferreira of FC Dallas. Voting for Best MLS Player is underway at www.espn.com/espy. Fans can also vote at www.facebook.com/espn. The award show will air live at 6 p.m. PT on Wednesday, July 13 from the Nokia Theater in Downtown Los Angeles with host Seth Meyers.

1994 World Cup Reunion July 2 at Stanford Stadium
The San Jose Earthquakes hosted a tribute to the 1994 United States World Cup squad on July 2 at Stanford Stadium. Tab Ramos, Marcelo Balboa, Paul Caligiuri, Fernando Clavijo, Mike Sorber, Juergen Sommer, John Harkes and Cobi Jones attended the game at the stadium where the 1994 team faced Brazil on July 4, 1994 in a Round of 16 match. The eight players participated in a meet-and-greet with fans before the game and were honored on the field at halftime of the Earthquakes match vs. the New York Red Bulls.

Busch the Shot Stopper
Fifteen games into the season, Earthquakes goalkeeper Jon Busch is tied for No. 4 in the league in saves with 53. Toronto FC’s Stefan Frei leads the pack with 70 saves in 19 matches.

Quakes to Host West Bromwich Albion of English Premier League on July 12
The San Jose Earthquakes will host West Bromwich Albion from the English Premier League (EPL) on Tuesday, July 12 at Buck Shaw Stadium at 7:30 p.m. PT. Individual tickets are on sale at SJEarthquakes.com and by calling (800) 225-2277. Season ticket holders should use their Bonus Game “B” ticket for the match. Prices for individual seats range from $20 to $50. West Brom is laden with internationals from around the globe including: Peter Odemwingie (Nigeria), Scott Carson (England), Marek Čech (Slovakia), Somen Tchoyi (Cameroon), Pablo Ibáñez (Spain), James Morrison (Scotland), Steven Reid (Republic of Ireland), Abdoulaye Méïté (Ivory Coast), Gabriel Tamaş (Romania), , Gonzalo Jara (Chile) and Dean Kiely (Republic of Ireland). Ibáñez was a starter for Spain alongside Carlos Puyol at center back during the 2006 World Cup.

Busch Among MLS Career Leaders for Shutouts
Jon Busch picked up his 57th career clean sheet on June 25 in a 0-0 draw against the Los Angeles Galaxy at Buck Shaw Stadium. The Earthquakes’ starting goalkeeper is eighth among MLS all-time leaders. He has recorded 11 shutouts in two seasons with San Jose, 21 during three seasons (2007-09) with the Chicago Fire and 25 in five seasons (2002-06) with the Columbus Crew. Next on the list are New England Revolution keeper Matt Reis and former MLS standout Tony Meola with 62.

Wells Fargo Soccer Mom of the Match
Wells Fargo will feature a Soccer Mom of the Match for each Earthquakes home game in 2011. The promotion kicked off on Saturday, June 25 with Tina Castaneda of San Jose taking home the award. One nominated mom will be selected for on-field and video-board recognition prior to kickoff each week. The winner will also receive four match tickets to an Earthquakes home game, a parking pass, and a jersey. They will also have the special privilege to watch pre-game warm ups from the field. The Earthquakes own a 3-5-4 all-time record against Chivas USA ...
