All-Stars: Quakes duo to face Manchester United tonight

The San Jose Earthquakes be well represented when the MLS All-Stars take on Manchester United at New York’s Red Bull Arena tonight at 5:30 p.m. on ESPN2, Telefutura and TSN.


Bobby Convey and Chris Wondolowski were both named to the AT&T MLS All-Star Game roster by coach Hans Backe and are expected to see time on the pitch. Players from around the league including David Beckham and Thierry Henry will join the Quakes duo.


Earthquakes fans hoping to watch the action can join Front Office staff and the Shakers Squad at Norm’s Place in Danville, Calif., the hometown of Wondolowski. The action gets going at 5 p.m. and will feature a raffle for a free


Convey has scored one goal and notched two assists so far this season while splitting time between left back and left mid. His brilliant free-kick goal on May 21 helped lead the Earthquakes to a 2-1 victory over New England Revolution at home. Wednesday night will mark his second-consecutive All-Star Game appearance.


Wondolowski was among the First XI selections as voted on by fans. The 2010 MLS Golden Boot winner leads the Earthquakes with eight goals so far this season. Most recently, he tallied twice in a 2-2 draw against Vancouver Whitecaps FC on July 20 at Buck Shaw Stadium. It was the second time in 2011 the local product turned out a multi-goal performance having scored both goals in a 2-0 win against FC Dallas on March 26 at Pizza Hut Park.
