SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes and Verizon have teamed up with PIER 39 and Telemundo 48 KSTS to announce today the launch of Adopt-A-School, a community-based program that will provide sports equipment to local underserved schools in an effort to promote physical activity. Equipment will be provided to schools that ordinarily may not have access to or be able to afford due to continued budget cuts.

Verizon and the Earthquakes have selected KIPP Heartwood Academy and KIPP San Jose Collegiate as the inaugural participants for the Adopt-A-School program.
The Earthquakes will accept donations for Verizon Adopt-A-School on Saturday, Aug. 6 when the club hosts the Portland Timbers as well as on Saturday, Aug. 13 for San Jose’s match against the Colorado Rapids. Fans are encouraged to bring new and gently used sports equipment, such as: soccer balls, portable soccer goals, ball bags, basketballs, footballs, baseballs, softballs, bats, gloves, volleyballs and volleyball nets. All donations will benefit KIPP Heartwood Academy and KIPP San Jose Collegiate. Donations will also be accepted through the Earthquakes Front Office during normal business hours. For everyone who donates at the August 6 and 13 Earthquakes games, they will receive a PIER 39 Fun Pack Discount Booklet.
On Saturday, September 17, Verizon will host a sports equipment collection at PIER 39 in San Francisco. Visitors who donate equipment will be entered-to-win prizes from Verizon, PIER 39 and the Earthquakes. Verizon will also offer live demonstrations of devices, games, and additional opportunities for visitors to test new Verizon products.
