Wondolowski Ties Donovan for No. 2 on Quakes’ All-Time Scoring Chart
Earthquakes forward Chris Wondolowski tied Landon Donovan for No. 2 on the club’s career goals list with his strike against the Colorado Rapids on Sept. 24. Wondo polished off a rebound from a Khari Stephenson shot for his 11th goal of 2011 and his 32nd in 69 games with the Quakes. The Danville native reached 32 goals in 18 fewer games than Donovan. Next up on the list is Ronald Cerritos, who notched 61 from 1997-2001 and in 2005. 


MLS Budweiser Golden Boot Update
Chris Wondolowski remains in the thick of the Budwesier Golden Boot chase with 11 goals and four games remaining. Here’s a glance at the standings heading into this week:

Last year, Wondolowski won the Budweiser Golden Boot with 18 goals. He scored 10 in San Jose’s final eight games to overtake LA Galaxy’s Edson Buddle.


Goals on the Road
Chris Wondolowski is No. 2 in MLS in goals scored on the road with six. He added to that total in Colorado on Sept. 24, slotting in the first goal of the game to put the host Rapids on their heels. Charlie Davis of D.C. United also has six away from home. Seattle’s Fredy Montero leads the league with seven.


Busch Raises Over $4,000 for Navy SEAL Foundation
Earthquakes goalkeeper Jon Busch raised over $4,000 for the Navy SEAL Foundation by auctioning his game-worn gear from the club’s match against the Chicago Fire on Sept. 10 at Buck Shaw Stadium. Busch honored all United State servicemen and women as well as victims of the 9-11 tragedy by wearing commemorative gloves and cleats during the match. In separate auctions, his gear brought in $3,074 for the Navy SEAL Foundation. Additionally, the Earthquakes Community Fund donated $1,000 to the cause.


Earthquakes Youth Development Academy Update
In the second week of play, the Earthquakes U16s beat San Diego Surf 1-0 and tied Nomads SC 1-1 at the Nutrilite Training Facility. The U18s lost to San Diego Surf 2-0 and defeated Nomads SC 2-1. The Earthquakes Academy has a bye week on tap and returns to action against Cal Odyssey in Fresno, Calif. on Oct. 8 with the U16s at 1:30 p.m. PT and U18s at 11 a.m. PT.


Busch the Shot Stopper
Thirty games into the season, Earthquakes goalkeeper Jon Busch is No. 2 in the league in saves with 106. New England Revolution keeper Matt Reis leads the pack with 110 saves in 26 matches. 


Hernandez Moves Up All-Time Starts List
Hernandez moved to within five starts of No. 8 on the Earthquakes’ all-time starts list on Sept. 10 with his 61 minutes played against the Chicago Fire on Sept 10. The defender has started 95 games since joining San Jose at the outset of the 2008 campaign. Next on the list is Eddie Lewis who started 100 games during his Quakes career from 1996-1999. 


Earthquakes Wrap Up Final 4v4 Tournament Presented by Wells Fargo of the Summer
The third and final Earthquakes 4v4 Tournament presented by Wells Fargo drew over 550 competitors and 1,000 fans to a sold out event at the soccer fields at Alden Oliver Sports Park in Hayward, Calif. on Sept. 18. Earthquakes midfielder Anthony Ampaipitakwong was on hand to sign autographs and take photographs with participants and fans. In all, over 80 teams completed in 12 different divisions. Winners from the event included: Men’s Open- Wells Fargo Agents; Boys U17- Jalisco; Boys U16- Wells Fargo Jr. Agents; Boys U14- Eclipse 3; Boys U12- Tecos Red; Boys U11- Milpitas United; Boys U10- Ninjas; Boys U9- Blue Tide; Boys U8- Napa Sport Olympico; Girls U13- Milpitas Panthers; Girls U11- Eclipse 3; Girls U10- Boca Natomas Yellow. Prizes were awarded to the first and second place teams in all divisions. All participants received an Earthquakes ticket, event t-shirt, and sponsor gifts. 


Earthquakes Aim to Raise $10,000 for Leukemia, Lymphoma Research in Light the Night Walk
For the fourth consecutive year, the Earthquakes will participate in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light The Night Walk. On Saturday, Oct. 15 in Palo Alto, Earthquakes players and members of the team’s front office will join fans to walk in the event. This year the team will walk in honor of Matt Luzunaris and his girlfriend Austen. Luzunaris has been very committed to cancer causes during his first season with the Earthquakes, establishing partnerships with local hospitals and cancer outreach groups. His life has been touched by cancer in multiple ways. He lost his brother, Sean, to cancer in 2001 and Austen is currently undergoing treatment for non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in Seattle. Click here to read Matt’s story. The club will also host The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) at Buck Shaw Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 1 for the game against Sporting Kansas City. There will be a silent auction featuring items such as: Quakes game-worn jerseys, a team-signed West Bromwich Albion jersey and signed memorabilia from the 1994 World Cup Reunion hosted by the club on July 2. All proceeds from the auction will benefit LLS.
