Golden Boot Update: Wondo one back

Chris Wondolowski celebrates his goal against Seattle Sounders FC at CenturyLink Field on October 15, 2011

The drama is building as Chris Wondolowski aims for his second straight Budweiser Golden Boot entering the final weekend of MLS regular season play.

Wondo trails D.C. United hitman Dwayne De Rosario by one goal, 15 to 16, and one game remaining for each. Adding to the intrigue is the timing of D.C. United and San Jose's matches this weekend. De Rosario and United kickoff against Sporting Kansas City at 4:30 p.m. PT at RFK Stadium. That match will wrap up about an hour before Wondolowski takes the field against FC Dallas at 7:30 p.m. PT at Buck Shaw Stadium.

Because De Rosario commands a substantial lead in assists, the tie-breaker category, Wondolowski will need to one-up the former San Jose standout to take home the Golden Boot.

Last year, Wondolowski scored four goals in two games over the final week of play to overtake former LA Galaxy forward Edson Buddle to be the top goal scorer in the league.
