Wondolowski Draws Start in 1-0 Win for U.S. National Team in Panama


San Jose Earthquakes forward Chris Wondolowski helped the U.S. National Team to a 1-0 win against host Panama at Estadio Rommel Fernandez in Panama City, Panama last week. Wondolowski earned his seventh cap and third start for the U.S. He was credited with two shots, including a header on goal which Panama goalkeeper Luis Mejia narrowly managed to keep out in the first half. Wondolowski was replaced by Jeff Parke in the 55th minute, following a red card issued to Geoff Cameron. Graham Zusi of Sporting Kansas City scored the lone goal nine minutes into the game, slamming home a loose ball in the penalty box. The U.S. will next be in action in a friendly against Italy in Genoa, Italy, on Feb. 29.




Earthquakes to Play Dynamo at AT&T Park on March 17


The Quakes announced last week that the club will host the Houston Dynamo at AT&T Park in San Francisco on Saturday, March 17, as part of a doubleheader with Olympic hopefuls from Mexico and Senegal. The Earthquakes open the twin bill by taking on 2011 MLS Cup finalist Houston at 2 p.m., with Mexico taking on Senegal at 4:30 p.m. in a final tune-up before Olympic qualifying. New Stadium Appeal Meeting Set for February 22


The date and time of the Earthquakes’ appeal meeting with the San Jose Planning Commission for the club’s new stadium has been set for Wednesday, Feb. 22, at 6:30 p.m., at San Jose City Hall.




Quakes Ink Goalkeeper Jon Busch to New Deal


San Jose Earthquakes goalkeeper Jon Busch signed a new contract with the club last week. Busch has been one of the top goalkeepers in MLS during his first two seasons in San Jose. The 2008 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year originally signed with the Quakes on March 30, 2010, and immediately helped lead the franchise to its first postseason berth since returning to the league in 2008. The 11-year veteran started 33 of San Jose’s 34 games in 2011 and led MLS in saves with 113, while notching seven shutouts.




Quakes Sign Turkish Forward Sercan Guvenisik


The San Jose Earthquakes signed Turkish forward Sercan Guvenisik on Jan. 26. Guvenisik last played for SC Preussen Muenster of the German Bundesliga 3, where he scored 14 goals over 56 league appearances since 2010. He spent a week on trial with the Earthquakes last June. In his MLS Reserve League debut, Guvenisik struck for a pair of goals during the first half of a 3-0 home win over the LA Galaxy in San Jose.




2012 Earthquakes Pre-Season Schedule


Players reported to camp on Jan. 16 in San Jose. The club will make three different pre-season trips: Tucson, Ariz. (Jan. 30-Feb. 4), Ventura, Calif. (Feb. 12-18) and Portland, Ore. (Feb. 26-March 5). The Quakes travel to Tucson on Monday afternoon, and will take on FC Tucson on Wednesday and Sporting Kansas City on Saturday before returning to San Jose that evening. Both matches begin at 10 a.m. PT.




The Earthquakes will participate in a four-team round-robin tournament in Portland. All games will be held at JELD-WEN Field. Earthquakes Return to San Luis Obispo for Preseason Exhibition


For a second consecutive year, the San Jose Earthquakes will play the Colorado Rapids in San Luis Obispo, Calif., as part of the MLS Central Coast Challenge hosted by Cal Poly Athletics. Tickets for Home Opener, June 30 Match at Stanford Stadium On Sale


Tickets for the San Jose Earthquakes’ home opener and the team’s match at Stanford Stadium against the LA Galaxy are now on sale. San Jose faces the New England Revolution in the home opener on Saturday, March 10, at Buck Shaw Stadium, while the LA Galaxy game takes place on Saturday, June 30, at Stanford Stadium. Quakes President David Kaval’s Office Hours


Earthquakes President David Kaval’s office hours continue during the offseason. Fans can drop by his office at 451 El Camino Real, Suite 220 in Santa Clara, Calif., on a new day, Tuesdays, between 3 and 5 p.m. PT, beginning on Tuesday, Jan. 31. Participants will be seen on a first come, first served basis.

Earthquakes Youth Academy Update


Academy U-16s Drop 3-1 Decision to Breakers
The San Jose Earthquakes U-16s lost 3-1 against the Santa Cruz Breakers on Sunday at Cabrillo College. The defeat was the first in Northwest Division play for the U16s this season, dropping them to 6-4-2 overall and 3-1 in the division.

Academy U-18s Face Off Against Tryout Invitees
The San Jose Earthquakes hosted the second round of their 2012 Open Tryout Saturday in Danville, Calif. Following the initial stage of the annual tryout on Sunday, Jan. 22, which featured over 200 hopefuls, 18 players were invited to return for a game against the Earthquakes Youth Development Academy U-18 squad. Earthquakes Club Ambassador Kelly Gray coached the tryout team, while Quakes technical staff was on hand to evaluate the players. Four of the tryout players will be invited to Earthquakes training camp next week.
