SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes, in conjunction with Major League Soccer, have announced the schedule for the club’s 2012 MLS Reserve League season. The Quakes will play host to the Portland Timbers on Tuesday, March 27, to begin their 10-game slate. Kick-off at the Earthquakes Training Facility in San Jose is slated for 11 a.m.
The MLS Reserve League is again divided into Eastern, Central and Western conferences, with each team playing all games within its conference. The Earthquakes compete in the Western Conference, and will face all five of their Western foes both home and away. Clubs may, at their discretion, schedule additional exhibition matches for their reserve squads against non-MLS opponents.
San Jose’s five games will take place at the Earthquakes Training Facility, beginning at 11 a.m.
Following the Timbers opener, the Quakes reserves will remain at home to take on Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Sunday, April 8. Additional home dates are Monday, May 14, against Chivas USA, Sunday, Aug. 12, against Seattle Sounders FC, and Tuesday, Sept. 4, versus the rival LA Galaxy.
At the conclusion of the season, the team with the most points out of all three conferences will be determined the Reserve League champions. As in MLS, three points are awarded for a win, one for a draw, and none for a loss.
The first of 95 total matches for the 19 MLS clubs in this year’s Reserve League season is set for March 12.
