Quakes extend partnership with Santa Cruz Beach Soccer Championships

Beach Soccer Tournament

SANTA CRUZ, Calif.—May 9, 2012—The One World Futbol ProjectTM, an award-winning B-Corporation and creators of the One World Futbol, today announced their sponsorship of the Santa Cruz Beach Soccer Championships, formerly called the Fresh Coast Beach Soccer Championships. As title sponsor, the One World Futbol Project is presenting a pair of 5-on-5 beach soccer tournaments, held on separate weekends this year, bringing Brazilian flair to Northern California. The tournaments take place on the weekends of June 2-3 and June 16-17, in front of the famous Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.

The 4th annual Santa Cruz Beach Soccer Championships draws a sell-out crowd every year, including U.S. National Beach Soccer players who display their high-flying bicycle kicks and aerial passing game to score amazing goals that is the trademark of this rapidly growing sport.  Divisions are set up for under-8 boys and girls through under-19, collegiate, adult co-ed, women’s and men’s. There is also a men’s open cash prize division with the winning side taking home $1,500. The under-8 level for boys and girls is new this year.

For each weekend tournament, matches consist of three 11-minute periods with four players and one goalkeeper on the field. Each team is guaranteed three games, with two on Saturday and one Sunday, and up to two more on Sunday based on performance. All games are scheduled after 11 a.m.  PT.  The tournament encourages participation by both competitive and recreational sides. Flexible match scheduling and club discounts are available for multiple teams. To register your team, visit http://beachsoccerchampionships.com.

Registered Teams Invited on Field at Earthquakes vs. LA Galaxy Game

For the second straight year, the San Jose Earthquakes are partnering with the tournament. The San Jose Earthquakes will provide each team that registers for the Santa Cruz Beach Soccer Championships with tickets to see the Quakes take on David Beckham and the defending MLS Champions LA Galaxy in the California Clasico at Stanford Stadium on Saturday, June 30, at 7 p.m. PT, presented by Xfinity.

Squads that sign up for one weekend receive one set of Quakes tickets for the team (seven total), and the opportunity to be recognized on the field at Stanford Stadium on June 30.  Those who sign up for both weekends receive two sets of tickets for the team (14 total), the opportunity to be recognized on the field at Stanford Stadium on June 30, and also get tournament t-shirts.  Kids who are part of the parade will have a chance to walk the field prior to the game on June 30. The match will have a live national television audience on ESPN2 and feature a post-game, fireworks spectacular.

Fundraise for Your Team

As part of the sponsorship, the One World Futbol Project is providing each team with a One World

About the One World Futbol Project

Launched in July 2010, the One World Futbol Project developed the One World Futbol—the world’s first virtually-indestructible ball that never needs a pump and never goes flat. For every ball bought at retail, the company donates a second ball to a community in need. The company also sells the One World Futbol directly to institutions and organizations, and works with schools, soccer teams, clubs and other organizations to help them raise funds while generating donated soccer balls at the same time.

The One World Futbol Project is headquartered in Berkeley, California.  To date, the One World Futbol has reached more than 135 countries through at least 138 organizations, keeping the spirit of play alive for an estimated 525,000 children and young people.
