Quakes to host third-round U.S. Open Cup game

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that the club will host a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup third-round match at Stanford’s Cagan Stadium on Tuesday, May 29 at 7:30 p.m. PT. The Earthquakes await the winner of next week’s second-round match between the Fresno Fuego (PDL) and Fort Lauderdale Strikers (NASL).


Tickets are $10 for current Earthquakes season ticket holders and $15 for the public. All seating is general admission. Fans can purchase tickets at Cagan Stadium on day of game. Advanced purchase is available at the club’s headquarters at 451 El Camino Real, Suite 220 in Santa Clara, on www.sjearthquakes.com starting Tuesday, May 22 at 10 a.m. PT or by calling 408-556-7700. Season ticket holders should call or email their fan relations representative to buy tickets.


The U.S. Open Cup is the oldest annual team tournament in American sports, dating back to 1914. The single-elimination competition began Tuesday and continues until the final on Aug. 7 or 8. The field includes teams from seven junctures of American soccer, including MLS, NASL, USL Pro, PDL, NPSL, USASA and US Club Soccer.


The Earthquakes will know their opponent on Tuesday, May 22 when the Fuego take on Fort Lauderdale in Florida. The Fuego are coming off a 2-0 win against Stanislaus United in the first round. Meanwhile, the Strikers received a bye into the second round.
