Bernardez suspended by MLS Disciplinary Committee

NEW YORK (August 21, 2012) – Based on this past weekend’s games, the MLS Disciplinary Committee has taken the following actions:


San Jose Earthquakes defender Victor Bernardez is suspended one game and fined an undisclosed amount for endangering the safety of his opponent, Montreal Impact midfielder Lamar Neagle, in the 25th minute of their game on Aug. 18.


Vancouver Whitecaps FC defender Gershon Koffie is suspended one game and fined an undisclosed amount for endangering the safety of his opponent, Seattle Sounders FC midfielder Andy Rose, in the 91st minute of the game on Aug. 18. Koffie has also been fined an additional amount for making an improper gesture in the 91st minute.


Montreal Impact defender Hassoun Camara is suspended one additional game and fined an undisclosed amount for his violent conduct against San Jose Earthquakes forward Steven Lenhart in the 19th minute of their game on Aug. 18. The referee issued a red card to Camara, thus he will be suspended a total of two games.


Fines collected will be donated to the charitable partners of MLS W.O.R.K.S. and the MLS Players Union.
