Every year, more than 10,000 patients in the U.S. are diagnosed with life-threatening diseases such as leukemia or lymphoma for which a marrow or stem cell blood transplant from an unrelated donor may be their best or only hope of a cure. At the Earthquakes game on Saturday, Sept. 29, we're working with Be The Match to help find a donor for Jeremy - a local, precocious two-year-old with a beautiful heart and a vibrant spirit, who was recently diagnosed with a rare form of AML. He needs a bone marrow transplant to survive. You could be the match that saves his life.
Patients like Jeremy depend on the Be The Match Registry to find a match – and a second chance at life. While many patients do find the life-saving match they need each year, more donors are needed to help increase the likelihood that all patients will find a match.
Donors with diverse racial or ethnic backgrounds are especially needed, as patients in need of a transplant are most likely to match someone who shares their same race or ethnicity.
