SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that for the fifth-consecutive year the club will participate in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light The Night Walk on Saturday, Oct. 20 in San Jose. Earthquakes players and members of the team’s front office will join fans to walk in the event.

On October 20, the Light The Night Walk festivities will begin at 5 p.m. PT at Discovery Meadow, adjacent to the Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose, with the walk starting at 7 p.m. PT. The event will take place a day before the club’s new stadium groundbreaking ceremony – noon on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 1125 Coleman Avenue – and the Earthquakes’ final regular season home game of the season against the LA Galaxy later that afternoon at 4 p.m. During and prior to the match, the club will host a silent auction at the community tent in the Epicenter Fan Zone to benefit LLS.

At the Light the Night event, participants walk carrying illuminated balloons to celebrate and commemorate lives touched by cancer. All funds raised through the Light The Night Walk support LLS’s mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life for patients and their families. Children, adults and seniors are all encouraged to participate in the event.

Light the Night will hold an additional event at Central Park in San Mateo at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27.

The Light The Night Walk brings together people from across the United States and Canada to raise money and awareness for cancer research. Donations will go towards lifesaving blood cancer research, free educational materials and events for patients and families, local programs, a peer-to-peer consulting program called First Connection and comprehensive assistance through the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Information Resource Center.
