Colorado Rapids Scouting Report
The Colorado Rapids (9-18-4, 31 pts.) enter Saturday’s match seventh in the Western Conference. The Rapids are 1-2-2 in their past five games and are considerably more threatening at home than on the road. The Rapids have scored 26 goals at home compared to 13 away. Leading the way offensively have been midfielder Jaime Castrillon and forward Omar Cummings, contributing eight and six goals respectively. The Earthquakes return to Commerce City after a dramatic come-from-behind 2-1 win on June 20.
Of Note
-The Earthquakes are seeking their second Supporters' Shield trophy in a tight race against Sporting Kansas City. The Earthquakes lead the Western Conference and Supporters' Shield race with 61 points compared to Sporting Kansas City's 58. Both teams have three games remaining.
-Quakes all-star forward Chris Wondolowski has been named September's Player of the Month for a fifth time and league-record third time in one season. Wondolowski recorded four goals and two assists as the Earthquakes compiled a 3-0-2 record in the month of September. Wondolowski currently leads MLS with 22 goals. The MLS Player of the Month is selected by a panel of journalists from The North American Soccer Reporters (NASR).
-Quakes all-star defender Justin Morrow has signed a new contract with the Earthquakes. The 25-year-old defender has had his most productive year, starting in and playing the full 90 minutes in 30 games this season. Per MLS policy, terms of the new deal were not disclosed.
