Real Salt Lake awaits San Jose in 2013 home opener

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes will host Real Salt Lake in the club’s 2013 home opener on Sunday, March 3, the third time in four years the Western Conference foes have been slated to play each other for MLS First Kick.


Tickets to the match will go on sale after the New Year. Earthquakes Season Ticket Holders will have the first opportunity to buy additional tickets starting on Monday, Jan. 7. The club will then host a special presale for Visa Signature cardholders on Thursday, Jan. 10 at 10 a.m. PT with a public on-sale date to follow on Friday, Jan. 11 at 10 a.m. Season ticket packages include priority seat selection for the club’s new stadium, which is set to open in 2014. The Earthquakes and Real Salt Lake finished Nos. 1 and 2, respectively, in the Western Conference last season. San Jose earned the club’s second Supporters’ Shield with a league-best 66 points from a 19-6-9 record while RSL finished with 57 points and a 17-11-6 record. San Jose was 3-0-0 against Real Salt Lake in 2012, outscoring them 10-2 in the process.


In addition to their home opener, the Earthquakes also learned their Week 3 opponent on Tuesday. San Jose will hit the road for a Saturday, March 16 date with the Columbus Crew at Crew Stadium.
