Feb. 26 targeted as construction date

Get the hard hats ready, it's construction time at the new stadium site!

Lauren Hepler of the Silicon Valley Business Journal reported yesterday that the club will begin work on their new stadium site on Tuesday, Feb. 26. Club president Dave Kaval initially made the announcement at a community dinner on Tuesday and confirmed details with the SVBJ on Wednesday.

The Earthquakes broke ground on their new stadium in Guinness World Record fashion on Oct. 21 with 6,256 shoveling dirt simultaneously for two minutes. The club had always targeted a late February start to construction and remains on target to open the facility at the start of the 2014 season.

Fans will be able to keep tabs on the construction through a web cam courtesy of EarthCam, the same group who worked with the Houston Dynamo on their new stadium. Keep an eye out for more details about the web cam.
