Signing: Rookie defender McGlynn inks deal

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that they have signed rookie defender Peter McGlynn pending receipt of his P-1 Visa. Per league and team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.


The Earthquakes selected McGlynn in the fourth round of the 2013 MLS Supplemental Draft (No. 72 overall). The former UC Santa Barbara right back was a fixture for the Gauchos during his four years on campus. The Irishman had two goals and six assists in 76 career games for UCSB.


“Peter is an attack-minded right back with a lot of upside. We look forward to having him on the squad and seeing his progression on the field,” said Earthquakes general manager John Doyle.


McGlynn previously played in the Shelbourne FC academy from 2000-08, helping the club to six league titles and four cup competition victories. His father, Ken, played for Bohemian FC in Ireland.
