Kaval's Kickoff: Big Week for J-Mo

Kaval's Kickoff New Image

With three matches in the books, the 2013 season for the Quakes has showcased our depth and resiliency. With many regular starters out, the team has had to rely on a patchwork line-up of rookies and spot starters to post a win, a loss, and a draw. This last weekend in Columbus, defender and Cleveland native Justin Morrow got a late equalizer to get a solid result on the road. It was great to see the Ohio native star in his home state in front of many friends and family. We are also proud that Justin was invited to national camp this week and hope he gets on the field in the upcoming qualifiers against Costa Rica and Mexico.

The late goal against Columbus continued the Goonies sequel that started the previous week with Stanford grad and rookie Adam Jahn's epic performance off the bench to lead the Quakes to a dramatic 2-1 comeback win against the mighty New York Red Bulls.

It was nice to see Walter Martinez available for the match on Saturday against the Crew. Walter continues our trend of signing Honduran players joining center back Victor Bernardez and crafty midfielder Marvin Chavez. Walter has World Cup experience and will bring another attacking option for the club as we march through the 2013 season.

Overall, March is all about staying in the upper half of the table especially as we get healthy. It is a long season and we want to be in the best position to make a run at the MLS Cup at the end of the season. Tough matches are on tap against Sounders FC and the Houston Dynamo and I am confident that Frank will have the team ready for those challenging tests. It all starts this coming weekend at home against Seattle. I hope to see everyone show up with their “A” game to root on the club as we go for three points against the Sounders. I know we will all be able to take some inspiration from the 1906 Ultras, who have a cool tifo display on tap.

On the stadium front, we have a big decision that we need to make. We need to decide what color we want the seats to be. Folks can email me at president@sjearthquakes.com or respond to me via Twitter @quakesprez with their thoughts. The options are black, gray, light blue, dark blue and red at this point. Please let me know your thoughts. This is a big decision that really impacts the feel of the venue.

Once again, huge match this weekend against the Sounders. Let's represent.
